WELL I HAVE A 97 BLACKBIRD IN A GREAT COLOUR...STEALTH GREY, THE BIKE IS MINT AND IM LOVING IT. MY QUESTION IS DO I PUT IT IN REPSOL COLOURS IT WONT COST ME ANYTHING OTHER THAN MY TIME AND A FEW STICKERS/PAINT ECT AS I WILL DO IT MYSELF....DILEMMA IS ONCE THE STEALTH GREY IS GONE ITS GONE...AND MY THOUGHTS ARE IT SHOULD ADD VALUE.. ??????

YOUR THOUGHTS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

I personally would say.....no. The lines of the bike are very organic and fit much more to a single color appearance, the stealth grey ( i suppose titanium ) is , as far as my opinion goes, far more "classy"than the rather aggressive repsol styling. But than again, this reflects only my personal opinion

Cheers, Burkhard

If you really want the repsol then go for it,and as you say it won't cost you much, but in my opinion I'm not sure it would add value. It's a personal taste and a lot of buyers would prefer the original paint.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". I think it looks good and it'll attract attention.
I like my bike plain black, in the last 40 years I've never been caught/stopped for speeding, and everybody speeds. I know I've passed a few unmarked police cars.
If your good enough to paint it this colour, you could always paint it grey again if you wanted.
As for adding value, it's only worth more if you sell it to someone that want's that paint job.
I've heard of insurance companies loading your policy because you've made it more attractive to thieves. Instead of calling it a Repsol, call it multi-coloured.

yeah in the right light the titanium does look a bit beige, or brownish grey

here you would have a hard time selling a Repsol, though the buyer might be willing to put down extra cash for it. i'd shelve the original parts and spray a new chinese set in the Repsol colors.

Here in the UK the DVLA (who keep the official records of licensed/registered vehicles) have many of the early Birdies described as "Beige" on the paperwork :)

And resale price s only really an issue if you don't intend running her till she dies ;o)

I wouldn't but as stated this is a personal opinion. I have never been a fan or Repsol colours and much prefer solid colours. I see it not adding but detracting form resell value. I see, "dam, a new paint job necessary!`` When it comes to resell. However, is you have the skill sets and this is the colour you want, by all means, it`s your bike, so do as you please.

I think the Repsol colours are great,go ahead its a nice compact color ,I bet no one will know the bikes identity.

Value always depends on Buyers or how many people want to buy.
Question becomes...would you have more Buyers for stock paint or the Repsol paint scheme?
Personally I would be looking for a stock paint scheme
(but we're all different)

I thought about doing the Repsol color scheme. But if someoe else caused me to wreck it would not feel right to blame them if I wrecked, they would never believe me.

If you want a Repsol bike, then go for it. If you want to maximize resale, I vote leave it stock.

A Blackbird buyer knows what they want--a classic Blackbird. A Repsol buyer is going to be looking for something sportier (600rr, 1000rr), not what they will think of as "an old, heavy hulk."

And I'm not saying this just because I'm partial to the Titanium color.

I wouldn't even worry about a resale value. You're either going to keep it for a long time or it's worth very little against a new bike anyway. If you like the Respol colours, go for it. You can always paint it again later.
