Thank you all for the answers. Much appreciated. Won't be doing it 'til riding season is over. Gotta save something to do with my bike for the winter!

I'll keep in mind to wear surgical gloves when I do the job. I still have all my modeling tools so I'll be well equipped. It's gonna be sweet to have a red GI in my red BB dashboard!

'later,

Surgical gloves! I would go with soft cotton gloves.

You have to go through the gears to set it up the first time but its really easy.

Its too large to integrate into the needle just couldnt be done..

But to answer the question. There isnt a motor at all, a coil and magnets but not a motor. even if you could integrate into the needle it would be too heavy.

Don't mess with the needle. There's a little piece of ferrous metal in the fan-shaped section at its base that rides in a magnetic field created by three little coils on the back side of the clock face. Even applying a paint with metallic content will disturb the calibration.

None of the Gear indicators that I recommended use the gear shift lever to determine gear change..

I've installed one on mine. Accurate 90% of the time, but quick shifting or lazy shifting will trick it - Im often riding around in 7th gear on my bird! I think I could fiddle with sensor position and magnet angle and such and get it slightly better, but frankly I'd prefer to be out riding ...

My light at the bottom left of the Tacho has blown, Not working, I have a broken wire on one side of it, ,

What sort of globe is in it, Is it directional as I have read on here, or does that just apply to the leds,

How do I check that it is still working, or has died, while its out of the bike, as on the table,

Keep it simple, Im not a sparky, Can I hook it straight up to the battery for a check, or will that blow it,

Will it do any damage if I do hook it up to the battery for a check,

Thanks in Advance,

AliveMan,

it would be easiest for U to connect the panel to the harness on the bike and repair it using them power connections.
otherwise your gona have to figuer out the pin out on the the connector in order to supply your own 12v power while on the bench.

then if so, your good to go

recon U got the cowling off then, so remember this is a plus and a minus volt system when hooking up to the out board battery...HA!

belive they are a 194 lamp,,,,just go to your auto parts store and buy the 194 LED lamps, think there are 4 of them. $10 for 2 here

STex, out

Forgot to say DM,

I U got a wire broken of the connector plug.....then 2 approaches to this diddy.

looking in the front of the connector u will see a square slot beneath the bottom of where the pin slids in,
got to stick a pin in that slot to release the lock pin while pulling on the pin

easist is just to cut wire on both sides of connector and twist lock them together. done!

Thanks Stex,

I am not playing with the leds, Hahahahaha, I would chuck it back together as is and just put up with a dark side on the Tacho,

Im not a sparky, I would just leave it alone,

Steve ( Uglystick) Rang me and set me straight on it, Its just a push in globe, Makes it very easy,

But after reading both threads, The dash change and the gear lever light mod, I wasnt game to just pull it out, As they were directional on the leds,

I do have a broken wire in there, and I thought it might be that the globe was soldered in, Once the globe is out, I can solder the wire back together,

I have JB Welded the broken stub back in for the bolt that holds it in the upper stay that I replaced, The upper stay was bent badly, So its all good now,

some one had already glued the stub bolt back in, so it has been chucked down the road before I got it, It runs straight with no hands on the bars, So its all good there,

Now to put it all back together again, and it will be away again, I Already have a two day ride planned, Overnighter with a camp on the river just at the start of the best Twisty road in OZ,

From what I have heard on another bike site, Over 100 bikes have already come to grief on it since it was finally tarred, Early this year, Hahahahaha. The cops are not happy about it,

and are policing it heavily, It is not a road for beginners or The Yahoo Element that think they can ride, One mistake, is too many on this road, Its a long way down,

There is no room for any errors, Omeo to Mitta Mitta, It has yellow posts, so its above the snow line, Ice could be a Problem on really cold days, And snow in winter,

Its summer here, so should be good, Hahahaha, I said that about Mt Hotham too, 25 + C, and we got caught in a Snow Blizzard, Hahahaha.
