I'm still in the midst of shopping for a Bird and really just waiting for some folks to make time to meet and report back to me on bike that I've identified as high level candidate. So while I'm getting my Birds in a row, I'm working on pricing out this and that to set it up for travel. So what's everyone's favorite luggage?

I talked to Givi yesterday and learned that SW-Motech makes a system for mounting side cases of different brands. Many years ago I enjoyed having only a top case for daily commuting but, if the YL and I are going to overnight, or weekend anywhere away with the bike, I'm considering having side cases as well.

I've run soft bags. Oxford 60's and sw motech alumrack setup for the longest time and worked great. Had seen givi wong rack but didnt like it at the time.
Now I run a wing rack and love it. Problem is they aren't cheap new. But for security you cant beat it. Very stable as well. And it has the option with the top bag to be a back rest and hand hold if the side bags are on. The monolock rack has it's issues with making the bird a little unstable hands off the bars. Not that folks rode hands off ( present company excluded, benefits of cruise control).
Corbin beetle bags look great work great at speed but can't hold much. And no top box option.
Sw motech is the newest for the BB and still obtainable not as obnoxious as the wing rack but I don't thing its able to support a top box thats a bolt on addition. Given the previous statement I'm not sure even if did that it would support a back rest function like the wing rack.

MMMMmmm... All depends on what you plan on taking with you on your rides... on a quasi regular basis.

You may need this:

CBR 13.3.jpg CBR 12.2.jpg

If your quasi regularly transporting alot of stuff and a passenger OR for medium to long trips. These are Givi 360e hard cases. Not show are turn signals and stop lights installed on bags. Practical(lots of space), durable and comfortable with added arm(cup holder!) and back rest. And of course changes driving characteristics of the bike. As XXGUY mentions below, if you go this route best to stay UNDER 130 mph!

OR just have the side cases without top case or vice versa!

As a second "Designer" option but will take some work to find are Beetle bags:

20181216_135749.jpg 20181216_150005.jpg (pics before make over...)

Looks good and has 5 to 6 liters of space per bags. Alot smaller than Givi bags but decent for what it is! Compared to Givi forget bringing home a pizza!. The Corbin seat has a slot for back rest which you can purchased separately. Durable, comfortable, but not as comfortable as Givi back rest. Does NOT change driving characteristics of the bike. Gone as fast as ... mph without so much as a ripple! Corbin designed these bags with speed in mind...

Third choice are "Softies":

"Softies" come in a range of styles and colours. And are great in that they can be put on and removed from your bike in under 5 minutes! Durable and most often water proof. And may or may not come with in liner. No back rest option unless you have a Corbin seat which allows for a back rest.

Hope that helps!

I have the SW/Motech and love them. All 1/4 turn bolts and they and the rack are off in 3 minutes as I do have to turn around and store the bags on the shelf in the garage. I am running GIVI E41's on the side and a huge GIVI V57 top box . Don't seem to affect handling below 130 mph. My son at 18 took it to an indicated 184 and went into a bad wobble. He said he let off the gas and it steadied out at 150 or so! Stupid kid! Lucky to be alive.
I believe that the top box sw/motech part may be hard to find these days.

Definitely this. :thumb:

I run V45's - and the top box provides the perfect backrest for Ma Girl on all our trips.

I'm kind of digging the look of the softies but, those Givi cases look like massive amounts of storage. I think I could make our weekly groceries in those.

+1 on what DA said- hard luggage can be left on the bike with less risk of it being nicked as well. Big plus over soft
+2! on what DA said as well! Cant go wrong Nomadicdread with Givi set! They provide the most space! I use it to do my groceries B4 my accident! and carrying my girls stuff AND my stuff when I go to work! AND is the most comfortable for passengers. Truly worth it!

I have some soft bags that I can sell you. They look like the soft bags someone posted a picture of on this thread. They are red. I had them on for a short time then went to hard luggage because hard luggage was weather proof, locked and secure, and much bigger. I bought them off of Beestoy. He might still have the top pack that sits on the seat and clips to the side bags. Plus my hard luggage now has the admore lights in them and that makes me more visible at night. If interested I can dig the soft bags out of the attic and take some pictures. $100 plus shipping I'm on my phone right now but I will post a link to a thread named... getting ready for a three week trip. Has good pics of my hard luggage. If you buy hard luggage used and then a top box later and its GIVI then I have a three lock set New never used so 1 key will open all three. $29 plus shipping.
