The fuse box in my 1997 xx has space for a 3-pin diode (got the name from the on-line parts diagrams) beside the 6 fuses and the 2 spare fuses. The diode is missing but the bike seems to be running fine. I just ordered the diode

1. What is that diode for?
2. Why does the bike show no problem without it - or are there problems that I'm unaware of?
3. Could the prev. owner have bypassed the diode somehow?
- If so, how & why?
4. Am I likely to have a bad result (burnt-out electrical parts or something) when I install the diode?

Thanks for your help.

... And remember to end each day with a cold Red Stripe beer!!! :eyebrows:

Found it in my Hanes manual. It's part of the side stand safety circuit. Anyone tried to start the engine with the diode removed?
