So after a shop looked at my bird they said that I should be wary if the left foot rest started vibrating or shaking but they "couldn't" tell me why it would happen. Could that happen if something's wrong? If so, what's wrong, should I do something or is it bullshit?

Please move the thread if it's in the wrong place.

Well, if nothing vibrates now and then it does start vibrating... then something has changed. Then I would go looking. Other than that I haven't a clue.

If that was the entire conversation, then you have puzzled everyone I am sure, and I for sure would be wary of that "shop"

If the gas tank falls off whilst you are driving down the road, then you should be concerned, however I cannot tell you why this may happen..lol

Check and make sure motor mounting bolts are tight. Been there and found two loose ones.
How bout balancers are out and need adjusting.

That statement raises all kinds of alarms and whistles. What the hell did they find that would make them warn you and not fix it or tell you what the problem is. Tell them to put away the smoke and mirror bullshit and explain themselves or drop their name so others will know to stay away from there.

The only thing that comes to mind that would warrant that statement on the left side would be the drive chain sprocket. So for a peace of mind I'd at least pull that cover and have a look.

It's been a while since I've been here because of summer vacation and all. But a little clarification: I went to the local Honda dealer because I thought I heard some rattling at about 4000 rpm and I wanted someone to take a look. A mechanic from the shop listened to the bike while it was in neutral even though I said I only heard it when I was riding in 1st or 2nd gear with the helmet open. Higher gears than that and it's too much wind too hear much from the engine at such low revs. Anyway, he listened at different revs and couldn't hear anything but he asked me about the footrest out of the blue but couldn't say what could be wrong if it did vibrate and I do feel some very, very mild vibration there from time to time. I posted in another thread that I usually stay away from this dealer and use a nearby Kawasaki dealer instead, but this time I wanted a Honda "specialist" to listen to it. The Kawa dealer is closed during the summer but I'll take the bike there the week after next. Any tips are still welcome though :) I haven't checked the front sprocket or the motor mounting bolts but the back sprocket looks fine. Might be misaligned though as some of you mention.

See if you can find a recommended local independant mechanic who knows motorbikes. From what I've heard, Honda dealerships are not experts and are there to make money, not to help. For example one near me once told me my rear shock needed replacing and the bike was not worth servicing for MOT. I took it to Jaws in Thetford who bounced the rear end a few times and declared it fine.

Yeah, the guys who run the Kawa shop knows their stuff. They do everything fra Kawazaki's to Harley's to Cagiva's and everything in between, and somehow know a lot about almost everything. Anyway, I probably have nothing to worry about. One of the owners took the bike for a ride and didn't notice anything wrong. Everything seemed fine and he couldn't say what could possibly be the cause but he told me to come back if it should get worse. They serviced the bike earlier this year and didn't notice anything then either. Again, it's only a very, very slight vibration and I barely notice it, and it's far from constant. Most of the times I don't notice anything. But thanks a lot for all the replies and tips guys! You really make life easier for people like me who's pretty far from being a mechanic and it's very appreciated :)
