Thanks Kris. I'll avoid using my custom keyboard emojis. Know a good source list of older style ones which do work (old rolling head etc)?

Thanks mate but where do I see that? Nothing obvious on my phone (enhanced view) nor switching to desktop view. Fyi I'm on android not iOS.

Posted here to avoid hijacking the “What have you done” thread – Just a recap and a bit more info. for anyone who might need it.

What's a Certificate of Conformity?

A Certificate of Conformity (COC) is granted for a motorcycle when it meets a minimum set of regulatory, technical and safety requirements. You’ll need this certificate if you want to export your bike overseas.

If your motorcycle was registered after 2001 and was originally registered for the UK market you should be able to apply using your VIN. This can be posted directly to you, free of charge.

Please note if your vehicle has already been issued with a Certificate of Conformity,in order to receive a duplicate certificate there will be a charge of £75 to cover the administrative costs. If you are unsure if the Certificate is a duplicate or not, please request the Certificate and we will be in touch with you if payment is required.

How to get one

To get your COC, email Honda UK at [email protected] including your full VIN number and your address details.
You can expect to receive your certificate within five to seven working days.

Just tried and got this response - an update for the sticky post possibly?

Thank you for contacting Honda UK.

We have a new procedure of acquiring a COC for bikes. Please visit the following link on our website and follow the instructions:
https://www.honda.co.uk/motorcycles/my-bike/certificate-conformity.html
At the bottom of the page simply click on "Apply for a Certificate of Conformity" and you will be redirected to the details screen. As soon as you apply via the online form we will receive your application and begin the usual process.

Thank you for contacting Honda. If we can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

Childofthe…/ Kris,

....I guess that if this works for the test I'm best keeping them for "best". Darn sure that in a couple of years time they'll have moved the goal posts again and force an expensive retest!
Put my FI cat cans on my '96 carb BB and went for the ULEZ test. I'm now ULEZ exempt. Woohoo!

For anyone following in my footsteps aim for cat cans 2004 onwards. Apparently pre 2004 cats are ok at CO emmissions but not so great at NOx (the ULEZ hurdle). I had a 2005 can and a 2007 can and came in compliant with plenty of head room.

Other tip from the top, use the TfL Pay to Drive app to check when your exemption has gone live. The website checker works on an older database, the app works on one the test centre interacts with (albeit still TfL managed re when your exemption is uploaded). My registration appeared same day. Can still however take 24-48hrs, I'm told.

Hi some assistance please. I applied and got rejected. I have a 2007 black bird. They said that my application was incomplete. I sent off
a copy off my log book plus the certificate of comformity from HONDA. I thought that was it.
I was unsure what
  • Proof of abatement equipment fitted to the vehicle" meant. do I have to take pictures of the CAT exhaust pipes?

Did you apply via the app or via the website?

I didnt have to do anything other than send them my certificate and log book. I certainly didn't send in any pictures or answer any questions about "abatement equipment."

Please note, Honda will provide a CoC for any Blackbird 2001 or newer as this is all that was tracked in their database. Honda admin fee is £30 (£25 + VAT). For earlier models you will have to do the ULEZ test for £175. If it's of help my '97 Bird with carbs (38K) passed just last week so I don't any issues for a stock bike in good condition.

I would think the certificate of conformity and the values stated on it are the proof. I don't think anyone else has had that rubbish come back? Input from others?
I'd reapply and if they ask again, ask for clarification. The whole of this affair has been an attempt to extort money by playing on people's ignorance and hoping they roll over and pay up.

Friends 2008 reg bike went straight through and no fee to Honda. No issues at all. As Kris says " The whole of this affair has been an attempt to extort money by playing on people's ignorance and hoping they roll over and pay up."
