Hello everyone. Thinking about buying a Black bird so that's how I found this forum. Currently riding a 94 CB1000 Super Four but looking for a bike to supplement my longer distance, cold weather rides so that's one reason for thinking of buying a XX.

welcome to the site! where are you located?

while a blackbird will be a step up in terms of power and wind protection, it's probably a step back in terms of comfort in stock condition (plenty of mods to address that). not to badmouth this bike we all love but, you might also consider something like an st1100 or st1300.

If you want a Blackbird, they're an awesome bike :) Get the best one you can afford with a proven service record for at least a good part of its life or looks like it has had a good life. Just make sure the rear brake releases straight away (on centre stand, press on foot lever, try to spin wheel and release pedal at the same time. Brakes should release without delay), no EFI fault codes then give it a huge service (ALL fluids) and enjoy.

from looking at the forums the efi seem to be more tricky if they go wrong
i have a carb version and they are dead simple to fault find
and they are usually cheaper
as mentioned above make sure you do a decent long run test to make sure its fault free
if you buy a older one its useful that your like to get your fingers dirty...
