Hi, I’m new to this forum and live in the UK. I have a CBR1100XX engine fitted to my Westfield, which is a Lotus 7-esque car. A fair few of these types of cars use bike engines these days and they are great fun to drive.

My query is based around the oil system. I believe from others’ experiences of using this engine in a car that, they can starve #3 of oil as the engine is mounted 90deg from the straight ahead position and will encounter oil surge forces that a bike wouldn’t normally see.

To counter this, people either fit a dry sump system or in my case a Canton Accusump. My engine has an oil cooler fitted and my initial thoughts were to plumb the Accusump into the hose leading from the cooler. Thinking about it since I can’t confirm whether the two ports that the cooler feeds from and to are in the pressure side leading to the engines oil supply galleries, or on the return side of the system after the engine leading back to the sump. For the Accusump system to work correctly it needs to be teed directly into the supply side.

My question is - can anyone confirm whether the two plug ports on the front of the engine are on the supply or return side?

I’ve attached a generic picture of a CRR1100XX engine and also a picture of where my cooler is plumbed in on my car.

Thanks

Here's the flow from the factory manual. the cooler looks to be a split path so going by your statement no that won't work you'll still starve the engine. The best path would be to use an adapter block between the block and filter that would route the oil through the accusump then into the filter.

I couldn’t find a schematic like that anywhere! That’s a massive help, thank you. I’ll get hold of a filter adapter and Tee into the system there. Cheers
