Any obvious suggestions please. Engine turns 15-20 degrees then jams solid turns back ok then jams up. I bought it for spares so it was cheap hoping to salvage 2 broken motors into 1 good one:

If bike was front end smash, check cylinder head for broken bits that can fall down into crankcase and cause locking up. If not, do cams turn with engine? Possibly valves hitting pistons if no. Strip and investigate time methinks. You have a good load of sparesp for the future whatever

If its rocking that far as kris states pull the valve cover and check to see if camshaft are moving. If so then chances are there's something in one of the cylinders. Check the plugs as you pull each one for signs of metal contact. The other possibility is it's in 2 gears at once. Which isn't normal. To check it see if you can shift it while rocking the motor back and forth. If it cases are going to have to be split. Just out of curiosity did you ask about it's condition even for it being a parts engine?

Thanks for the feedback I put an endoscope down looks like the engine was left in a water tank, got it turning on starter but it’s sluggish and little compression, total rebuild needed but it’s not economical! May as well save up and buy one off eBay for 3 or 400 quid
