Ey up all, I have just tried to get insurance for my 16 year old. Regardless of bike I can't get it below £1600 TPFT, any tips on making it realistic?

At 16 you can only ride a moped.
They want £1600 to insure a moped ?

Also - TPFT is not always the cheapest - try FC with a higher excess.
Add yourself to the policy as a named rider.
£1600 was the cheapest! £1890 was the cheapest with me on as well. Bennetts online wouldn't even automatically quote for a Honda C50.
Call a broker or agent directly. The automated systems seem to err on the side of caution; charge high and reject less common vehicles.

Try Carole Nash and Principal too, if they are available.
If an older experienced rider/driver, with a good record is added to the policy, as a 2nd rider/driver, it will reduce the risk rating.
This is insane. What is wrong with the UK insurance system!?
Almost pays of to think about going to France, bye a bike and insure it there! For the kind of money the UK charges a new rider, it will pay for 1 year rent in Formula 1 hotel to have an address and the bike license plate. It is insane.

What is wrong is that the media machine says "insurance prices will rise substantially" - then adds a recognised name to the claim "Martin Lewis"
And suddenly the insurance industry sees it as a licence to fleece the public "because they are now expecting it "
I can't do it, poor lad is keen as well. I can't justify paying more for the insurance than the moped.
