Bee,

Without wishing to add to your workload and time you've invested in Goldwing right switch gear rewiring, ever considered these Yamaha left switch gears? Seem to have everything for an FI Bird (bar a choke lever as I'm a carb Bird).

One even has a hazard light switch (I'm mod'd to add hazards though via a Suzuki switch gear).

Interesting KTM right switchgear too (though same problem: missing light switch as GL grear).

The Pan Euro (ST1300) seems to have a Police set for right side some have used for cruise control without losing the headlight/ drl switch (albeit a touch ugly and prob needs bar risers)

It looks to be the same as an older GL set plus another upside is it has two extra switches which can be used for aux kit (e.g. TPMS on/off in my case).

I may still be minded to go for this GL set (35013-MCA-505) and mod the extra "RSV on off" switch to headlights/ parking DLR/ Off instead.

B, you mentioned something about Canbus sys v analogue. Beyond my knowledge base. Do they think the above may be workable for us on this side of the pond?

It would depend on the switch assembly. If its gone to canbus then you won't be able to use it because the switches are more than likely wired to give a 5 volt logic signal. Something to note of interest the early wings dash worked on a 7 volt system. The engineers put a load resistor in line to step the 12 volts down.
So I wouldn't be an bit surprised about the newer switches being logic devices only. So the wire would most likely be something like 20 gage or thinner making it useless for a 12 volt system control switch. The only way to know would to be finding one used and cracking it open or checking the plug end that connects to the main harness. If its 18 gage wire then it might be possible to use it.

What do you reckon? Likely to be non-canbus?

Well after 9 years and thousands of miles I had my first catastrophic failure. The line for the Resume Accel function went dead. Resistance check showed the line went open. I pulled the cable and did the old wiggle and twist check and got absolutely nothing. So I built another cable and replaced the bad sector. All's back to normal I can hop up on the pillion and scare the helk out of people again.:smilebig:

That looks a much better price than suppliers here for a new one ($220+ p&p). What would shipping be to the UK? Does shipping also include import duty?

Best I've found so far here is on fleabay from the States:

Used: $85 (made up of $50+$25 shipping+$10 import duty).

New: $170 ($125 + $15 shipping + $30 duty)

Next issue I'm needing to look into is the likely impact on my bike insurance (if any) to see if I go:

1. "Rosta adapted to BB + GL switchgear" self installed versus
2. MCCruise BB specific kit installed by a certified pro.

The second option is likely to be at least twice the price of the first but potentially no impact to insurance. The first at worst may nullify the insurance (if undisclosed) else raise it by an as yet unknown amount.

Anyone UK who's done either who can add any comment? Ade?

Well if i remember we called ades kit used parts so duty was minimal. shipping via fedex or UPS as he didn't have good luck in the past with USPS was pricey. But that was for a whole kit switch may be a bit cheaper. Let me know an address and I can price it out for you if you want.

Interesting question. Never thought about that and over in the State's we modify and don't even think about what the insurance company thinks. When I wrecked my 2015 Wing. The guy barely knew anything about bikes. Let alone if a CBR came with CC on it. They would never know if I didn't point it out. You must have some smart people asking the right questions.

Oh they're very sharp at spotting opt outs when it comes to not paying up if they can help it!

Hence me asking the Q in the forum not directly (yet) of my insurer.

Always best to avoid creating a problem unnecessarily .

Ade, are you awake yet? Duck… you're mega mod'd. Anything to add?

All my mods to date aren't performance related just security, comfort, convenience or improved safety so no noticeable insurance issues.

CC may be new waters for me.

The only thing I can say is 'ask and see' these things really depend on the insurance Co and their attitude to modifications.
Last time I changed insurance Companies for 'Duck' I was asked for a full list of every modification ...... I sent them 7 pages ...... they sent my list back and suggested I confine my list to items such as 'modified front and rear suspension' apparently they didn't want to know of every bracket and Ti bolt :rotfl:
