Hello fellow fighter pilots! As part of my "New Monster II" project I decided to make a seat upgrade using the stock seat. I still have my German Solo seat and until such time I can get a custom seat(Long, low, with logo, comfort gel and heated) that is a $1600.00 investment boys n girl! Rather spend that on other upgrades! It's fairly simple. Will post pics as I move forward...

PLEASE NOTE! THIS MODE IS PRIMARILY TO ALLOW A BACK REST OPTION. ANY UNIVERSAL SQUARE PEG BACK REST WILL DO. ANY "SKIN" COVER CAN BE USED, ALL THAT IS NEEDED IS TO MAKE 45 DEG. CUTS FOR SQUARE PEG INSERTION. AND CAN BE DONE TO ANY BB STOCK SEAT.

THIS IS A DIY MODE! SO PLEASE TAKE NOTE:

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY MODES YOU ADD/MAKE TO YOUR BLACKBIRD! INCLUDING THIS SEAT MODIFICATION.

A good seat maker will usually keep you away from gel. Keeps the heat in and doesn't support well. I have a Corbin on my XX, people have Laam seats too (Beestoy?)out of Redding CA. Also Russell day long saddles out of Redding CA is another good one. I think they have a sport model like Laam. Don't know about custom logos though. Try Diamond seats out of Florida. They most likely won't have a seat for an XX but you never know.
Be interesting to watch and follow along!

...comfort gel and heated...

Have a gander at the wiring set up it made. It allows me to take the seat on and off without long trailing leads or unplugging the seat manually. In version one I only had a two prong contact connector. For version two I've found a three prong one (so I can now have front and rear seats sorted independantly with my seat controlled from a switch on my bars)

MMMmmmm... Seen these(Long, low, with logo, comfort gel and heated) types of seats on eBay...

Had a Corbin on first "New Monster" but HAD to leave it on the bike! Gawd! That hurt! Will look into those other companies you mentioned. Thank you

Hi Guys weigh up the prices ie.
Gel pads cost £40-£50 each, the cover would cost you around £40-£60 (depending on what your after) and then you need the stapler.. say £10 for one that might do the job (but you will swear alot) so thats a total of £130-£170 for a diy job..

You can get an Else Made Razorback style seat (reshaped and covered) for £120. + 2x ultimate comfort inserts (£55 each or 2 for £100) = £175-£220
And when you come to sell your seat you will be able to sell it and get nearly all your cash back.

Have a look for Else Made on Face book or Google

I have one made by Alastair at ELSE MADE, he will do any of the designs on his site or something completely unique.

Excellent customer service and a genuinely nice bloke, I would highly recommend.

Russell daylong is the seat of preference for me and the misses on long hauls. They do make a sport version that cuts the drivers wings down some. They also have a spring insert option for the driver. And with the big wings its actually pretty handy in the twisties. Gives me a good purchase for my leg when I hang my tail out and drop knee.

On another note. How far out from the original seat does your mod set. I can take a measurement for the cruise control servo to see if it'll still clear your seat mod.

Bolts are almost flush with edge of seat.

From the back piece to the end of the bolt is about 1.5 inches. I can cut part of the bolt 1/8. So total distance would be 1 3/8.

Okay! So here are some pics. Write up for each image AND specs coming! (Sorry! Some picks are sideways.)

Okay! So for starters I recycled the bracket and square alum. shaft from my ol CBR1000F. Made it smaller and made a slot for the square alum. shaft. Shaft is 2 1/4 inches long and 1/2 inch square. Bracket made of alum. and is 3 3/8(L) X 1/2(W) X 1 5/8(H). I used a piece of 1/8 poly plastic as backing(You can also use stainless steel or alum. as your backing) roughly the same size as the plate which extends past both ends of alum. bracket by 3/8 of an inch. Overall length of plastic backing would be 4 1/8 (L) X 1 5/8(H). 4 X 8mm stainless bolts with 4 locking nuts, 4lock washers and 4 lock bolts(S.S. bolts should be used if using steel or alum. backing with lock washers.)that are typically used for wood applications, but since I'm using plastic it would invariably bite into the plastic with all the tightening forces applied.

1/4 slot was cut into plate, creating 1/8 inch "ledge" inside the square tube, hence backrest square peg will never past the 1/8 ledge! all that needs to be done is to secure it with bolt at bottom outside plate.

Will need to cut out some foam so bolts won't dig into it. And will make it easier to push back into place.
20200122_004412.jpg

Will need to cut part of the plastic ribbing so as to slot in plastic(Steel/alum) backing.

Here I made the square hole slightly too big! No biggie won't see it!

Now.... If I can only find my back rest! Lolo Once I do will take pic of final install.

Next mode will include this skin... Will have to make hole for backrest.

Still think they look kinda funny! BUT I know they MUST be comfortable! Might consider it for those long hauls with my misses! Thank you! Do they also make the winged part for the passenger seat?

Exactly what I'm waiting for from him! Basically, same design BUT XX in red and CBR on top of XX in white. Passenger seat will extended 1" to 1 1/2" making it longer and driver portion shorter.

Ultimately, I want the passenger portion to look like this! BUT in "Razorback" style...
