hi Guys
i recently intro-ed myself descriding the partial rebuild of a 98 xx that had been left out in all weathers for several years
so there was quite a bit of cosmetic work to do
i found that for corroded parts a brillo pad or dishwash scouring pad works very well to remove the salts and bring the surface back to a state that can be either painted eg engine or polished eg wheels and fasteners
once have got rid of most of the tarnish even on still painted surfaces ( like the upper cross bar on the forks ) i then seal it with a kind of plastic spray sealant that brings the surface back to life; not looking brand new but looking like a slightly older burnished finish
this saves buying lots of parts as you can mostly re use what you have
greetings from belgium
paul
