Well
Took a very bad hit Tuesday heading into work. So my babies going to be getting some reconstructive surgery. As am I.
Laying here in Banner Thunderbird. Right tibia pinned an plated. Left leg waiting for trauma swelling to go down. It's in an immobilizer. Left hip was also broke but lined back up that one's going be natural healing. After I hit the ground and slide. I got ran over and dragged 30 to 40 ft under the car. But I'm here an healing. Never lost conscience through the entire ordeal.

As @bikerian has said listen to your body you will find yourself feeling very tired very quickly ..... but I am a fine one to talk.
When I was due to start the strip down of the wrecked bike that was to become my supercharged Bird I managed to snap the tendon that runs over the top of the knuckle on my first finger right hand (repairing my van) ..... 3 months with the hand and forearm totally immobilised! I stripped the bike down to an engine in the frame with my left hand only.

I found a little 'bike time' at weekends sensible to keep my head straight.

On the wheel I wouldn't have it straightened. It could be done but in order to get the grain direction correct (correct strength) you would need a specific heating and cooling regime and the rim would need to be 'massaged' back into shape. Not an easy task, actually rather specialised and expensive. A new wheel is the way to go.

Agreed I'll listen to my body and the advise to go in small steps.
Priority will actually to get my customers bikes out first. Then turn my attention to
Phoenix.
As for the wheel in was thinking the same thing. With my machinist background I understand completely. And hearing it from an engineers aspect just solidifies my path. Its about a 8 month wait as the wheel is made when ordered. So saving 1400.00 is worth the wait.

Holy hell, Bees. I'm checking to the end of this thread to see if there are any updates. Please rest up and heal fast.

Bees,
Ya know that I've got Flooded Bird still sitting in the driveway. Frame and all is good, side casings all good. I was keeping it all so if I wrecked the bike I could rebuild mine... but time flies and life has kept me busy but... I could put it in the truck and haul it down there for a parts mule for you. I have time off coming at Christmas. Christmas at my Sis in laws in Phoenix wouldn't be a bad thing. It's yours if you want it.

You keep it God forbid you ever end up down this road. I've got a factory unstained frame already in the wings. The rest of the pieces are going to be one offs from here. I'll be good
Just sourced a complete pretty much brand new harness from Australia. I will take the tank though if you would like to bring it down.

If you can't source a tank I could send it your way. Those are getting harder to find than Birds teeth!

Ok let me see what I can find.
Ok update
X-rays done on left knee. Hardware took very good. So the brace is off unless I'm doing a great deal of movement. I go back in 4 weeks. They're gonna X-ray both legs to make sure it's still progressing. At that time we'll start loading the left leg to get me back to normal mobility. Right thumb is almost healed as well. 3 more weeks and i should be back to normal on loading it as well. Burns are healing very quickly. Only a couple that are still open. The groin actually closed up about a 1/4 inch all around the edges in the last week. Back is still sore but it's getting more tolerable and I'm able to lay on my sides for short intervals.

Tank maybe found. I also posted a thread on a Longshot. For the German handle solo seat. To see if anyone might be interested in 3rd party transactioning for me.
Been a bit of a rough weekend. Saturday afternoon my right side of my back began to spasm. Bad enough to tell the misses to take me into the ER. Took some X-rays and nothing look like it got pulled out of place because of the contractions. They weren't grand Mal but wow they'd yank my assistance over pretty good. Poor folks probably thought I had turrets lol. So now I can add diazapene to my list of feel good pills.
Otherwise doing well was planning to start working on the kawasaki but until I can get this under control I gotta wait. 😟
Glad you are healing. Can't be easy!

It's got its moments. Bit I'm not letting it get me down. Spent some time in the garage the last couple days. Learning to work in a wheelchair's a challenge.

It definitely can't be easy, but it looks like you have it in you to eventually get back on the bike even though it's going to be a long haul. I'm sure that there are many people on the forum rooting for you, even though they don't post because it's sometimes difficult to find the right words to say.

With reference to your earlier post, I agree with you that Motoport gear is possibly the best gear out in terms of protection.

I don't know what parts you are looking for, and whether your bike is carb or FI, but there is a mechanic who parted a bike here in Calgary. I have met him and he seems like a decent, honest guy. I saw the bike a few months ago.....lowside damage and the tank had a ding in it. No plastic. He may have some bits and pieces if you cannot find them elsewhere. He also sells through ebay which gives you security when buying. The only issue will be the crazy cost of Canadian postage. If you want me to check out and buy anything for you anything feel free to ask. The guy does not live too far from me so it's no problem.

A good friend of mine is flying to Phoenix next month and I could ask her if she will carry some parts down for you. Heck, I may just decide to come down myself to get away from the deep freeze.

It's got its moments as I mentioned but with the blessings of the lord and all the positive energies of friends and well wishers here. I continue to make great progress.
Thank you so very kindly for the offer. I'm still looking at items
My big push now is to get some of my customers bikes out.
Glad you are healing!!!

Makes me want to get some new gear and actually wear it!!!!

Great to read your mending well👍
One of the best things I did after right leg reconstruction was to get a recumbent execise bike, I know every ones injuries are different, but It helped by giving me movement back, and also helped strengthen my messed up thigh muscle some, I just used to put my mp3 player and head phones on and slowly day by day build up some time on it. It's a long haul recovering from injuries as iam sure most of you know, but if you put the time in and have some patience in you
Will get there.
And 1 of the things that still help me now is hot water bottles lol.

Yeah just waiting for the go ahead to start weight bearing.
Take your time, mend well and come back as strong as you can.
Good tank and subframe found.
