Hello everyone, I bought my blue beauty recently and love it, but do suffer after a longer ride, being, ermm, slightly too tall. Tried sitting on friend's bike with some lowered pegs and liked it, so fitted 6 mm spacer to compensate for height, bought set of Buell XB pegs on eBay and waiting for them to arrive. I was thinking about increasing seat height but that would increase leaning angle on the handlebars, which already is an issue, with wrist ache etc. I'll also try 28 mm risers, apparently that can be done without longer clutch line and throttle cables. Then I'll think about screen, standard at the moment, lots of wind in my torso and head.

Anyone here of similar posture who could share their experience with mods?

Any comments will be appreciated.

I love that bike so will try all options to make her work for me.

I have Jaws peg-lowering brackets on my bike and replaced the standard bars with clip-ons that are angled more to my liking.

Hi Pugwash, could you please specify what kind of bars and where did you get them from? I'm not a big fan of that angle either, but thought that the only option to change it is flat bar conversion.

Off the top of my head I can't remember how much I paid, but they are simple clamp-on to the correct diameter of the BB forks. This album has some good photos. They were available at different angles and mine only touch the mirrors on full-lock.

I did buy shorter levers later and they were also cheap!

(a quick google and it looks like you need 43mm for the Bird, and they are called "CNC Raised Clip ons")

Years ago we used to use VFR800 clipons. They give you about 1" up and 1" back and don't require any cable or hose changes.

You can also switch to carbed cables they give you 2 inches more cable. I've got a set of modified heli's that were professionally lengthened an extra inch. Making them a 2.5 inch raise. I used the carby cables and it worked fine.

can't find it now but, there was this guy who put st bars on his bird...

as far as the wind on your chest and above, remember that helps keep the weight off your wrists.

sounds like a lot of work but, with longer cables / lines and a tubular bar kit, your options would be practically endless.

A mate has VFR bars and fitted them the other way around, e. the left bar on the right side and vice versa, which puts them back a bit closer to you as well as being higher. Works great for him.
Don't think you can use all VFR bars though, just certain years.

If you look closely you can see that it makes quite a difference compared to mine that is stock (mine to the right).

I did the same with my modified Heli's made a difference as well. Tipped the bar angle back and took some strain off my wrists. Also gave me tank clearance when it went to the stops.

I'm 6'5 and have no trouble, spend a bit of time getting used to the bike before rushing into anything. Learn to use your back to help support your upper torso instead of all weight on your wrists. For the record I have helibars , 41 mm taller and the 6mm shim only, bars came already fitted and all hoses/cables are original. Some pics in my gallery. Check out the helibars website.
