I remember from 1997 when the XX first came out that a bike magazine did a top speed run on a racetrack, I think it was in Spain. Having removed the mirrors, they managed to clock it at 302 km/h. Most other tests I've seen have given top speeds around 287.

It was a little jump lol and I was standing on the pegs a little, just to avoid the kick from the bump - actually it looks worse than it was. No trouble at all and all safe ride home lol

So what was the speed, bit hard to see, looked like 298kmh? With 17/44 sprockets and 7% speedo error that is ~277kmh ;)
I had my 98 up to 287kmh years ago (267kmh actual), had a little left but the road had some undulations so the front was getting light so was judicious to back off

Way back, local magazine ran top speed comparisons using their radar gun, and smallest rider, at an airport. The BB topped out at 279kph, the brand new Kawasaki hit 297kph, and the 'busa got to 301, (pre speed limiter version). They did another run on the 'busa with the mirrors folded back & got it to 311kph.

On GPS speed was about 276 -ish and yes all speedos have error , so we always get more speed on speedo than the real one I guess depend on the tires pressure, rider weight etc.

Fiddling with numbers on a rainy day here...

@TheDuck : Questions:
Speed is in mph. Is it safe to assume that distance is in meters? - a non-imperial unit of measure...
Is the source material made by MCN available somewhere?

Given my guesses are correct, a bit of number-twiddling got me these BB performance graphs - and now you have them too:
130327

130328

130329

Finally - to put things into perspective, here's a screengrab from Youtube, stating Tesla 3 performance data:
130330

Replacing the model 3 with a Model S apparently gets you this (blue line):
130331

So, the blackbird can hold its own - even against the latest craze.

Yes metres. No the information has not as far as I know ever been released. I acquired it from their data logging tester after they had tested my supercharged Bird.

Nice Graphs. (y)
