Newbie here , looking some advice regarding changing front wheels , I am about to purchase a front wheel from a bike breaker but he doesn't know what year of Blackbird the wheel is from, i take it there is a difference in the carbie wheel and the Fi wheel ? are they interchangeable or is there too much of a difference in them .. mine is a 1998 Carbie Bird ..

You can use an Fi wheel on a carb but it must be the complete assembly ( wheel, discs, spacers, axle )
Ask him to measure to outside diameter of the seals in the wheel
carb will be 42mm ( same as the od of the bearings )
Fi will be 47mm ( same as the od of the bearings )
Just one other thought - how many bobbins are on the discs you have fitted ( assuming they are OEM discs )
Early carb wheels have 6 bobbins
Fi discs have 7 bobbins
Just mentioning because the last of the 98 carb birds were fitted with Fi wheels.
