    Front Wheel Question

I'm looking for a new front wheel to replace the one I bashed. My bird is a 99. What wheels are interchangeable with mine? I see wheels from 97s and 98s very often listed as "all blackbird years". Is this the case. Are all the front wheels the same?

    Thanks

So how do I tell the difference in the wheels? They look pretty much the same.

    Thanks

    Re: Front Wheel Question

You can swap 97-98 model year carbureted chassis front wheels into 99 and up fuel injection chassis without issue if ........

If you swap the complete wheel assembly, including wheel, brake disc, axle, and axle spacers.

Rear wheels swap direct from one chassis to the other without any issues.

    Re: Front Wheel Question

    Wheel diffs:

    1) The carb machine wheel has black brake rotor carriers and these carriers attach to the wheel with 6 bolts. FI front wheels have gold colored carriers and attach with 6 bolts. This "color" i.d. is true for most sale markets I believe.
    2) The "look" design of the brake rotor carriers are also different between carb and fuel injection model years.3
    3) The bearing size is smaller on the carb wheels, FI wheels have large bearing design..ergo the need to swap the complete wheel, rotor, axle, axle spacer set if doing a wheel change between model years.

Couple pictures attached show the gold fuel injection rotors (on a Fuel injection spec, Dymag wheel) and the black rotor carrier of the carb machine front wheel (all OEM parts shown here).

    Re: Front Wheel Question

1999 and 2000 cbr 600 f4 front rim is also a direct fit for the FI 99+ Blackbirds.

Late model FI birds (2006, 2007) also have black carriers on the front rotors. Not sure about 2003-2005.
Shouldn't affect you though in the U.S. but good to know for eBay shopping.

From what I've seen, carb wheels are painted black, FI wheels are grey (unless they have been resprayed).

And yeah, 1999 and 2000 CBR600F4 wheels, front axle and axle spacers are identical to the FI bird. They use the VFR800 brake rotors though.

    Re: Front Wheel Question

Both the 97-98 wheel and the 99 and up wheel will work on any any blackbird. You just need to change the entire wheel assembly as TigerST mentioned. Also take note that the wheel bearings are different, the 97-98 has a smaller wheel bearing so those are not interchangeable with the later model wheel. Ebay usually has the best deals on used wheels from bikes that are being parted out. Craigslist can work too if you use a nationwide search program or service like Search Tempest.

Question: Have you looked into having your wheel repaired? I had my front wheel repaired after it was damaged and the cost was a bit less than buying a replacement wheel. I took my damaged wheel to a business that repairs aluminum wheels on cars and they did the powder coat as well.

    Re: Front Wheel Question

Thanks F/C. I actually did check into a repair and it was going to cost about as much as a good condition, unbashed wheel. I think I found one so I'm going to go that route for now.

    Thanks

    Joe
