    Any pics anyone?

    Hi All,

    Not posted in a while the birds been sat in the shed a while :-).
    Anyways after looking around for something new and not taking a fancy to anything I've treated the Bird to a shock.

    The only issue I am having after installation is where to put the remote reservoirs? I have a stock seat and don't really want to go external as its just more to clean, so have any of you guy's got pics of remote reservoirs under the seat?

    Depends on year and R/R location. If it's pre 03 mine is located on the right frame rail as you set on the bike. You will have to put the clamp bands on 2 separate rails. Front goes on the lower rail rear goes on the upper. You will put the adjuster wheel above the rear brake reservoir.

    Thanks for the responding Beestoys,

    Dam its an 04 an that's one big RR on the right, pretty much offbounds that side, think I might try juggling it with the scot oiler on the left as I sit on it.
    Dont really what to go down to the hanger with it.

    Don't think it will help too much but this is what I did with my supercharged Bird, everything fits inside the tail unit.

    Cheers TheDuck,

    Nice job squeezing all that under there, gives me hope.

    Had a play earlier and now got the seat closing properly, at least I can go out this afternoon on it.

    I did a similar install as Duck...but I'm "right handed" so.... After the shocks first maintenance cycle (inspection and re-build at 24,000km's) by Hard Racing, I reworked the res install to include some rubber protection. I can still get at the adjuster knob on the reservoir via the air vent cut out on the tail cowls right side.

    Exactly what I was looking for! very tidy, although mine will be on the opposite side.

    Looks like I am gonna have to start again, swap the scot oiler over with the remote comp/rebound adjuster (and that was a feat getting it where it is)
    It'll kill 2 birds with one stone though because I wanted to stripe the bottom linkages for a good clean and raise the shock height by a couple of mil anyway.

    I don't know that it will matter or not but, as others have mounted the reservoir on the left side but... There is the grab handle to consider on the left side of the tail frame. Will it be in the way? Archive pictures lifted from the "Hard Saddlebag" install post. This assumes you opt for a outside the frame install as I did. Ducks is rather tidy in the under-seat/inside the frame install mode.

    You could always lose the foot and a half factory jumper harness and move the R/R to the early models side. Gets rid off all the unnecessary wire and then mount it like all the early normal people lol do.

    but of course what Gadgey has to take into account is that not only did I remove the grab handle but I installed a new 'floor' (aluminium sheet) behind the battery box for my install with the adjusters reached via holes cut in the 'floor' which means I can get to the adjusters simply by removing the underside of the tail unit. That is why I suggested it might not be of much help.

    Like your more 'conventional' set up. The one thing to 'note' is that with Ohlins (no idea about the Nitron unit) is that there are 2 versions, one for LH installation and one for RH. If you try to use the wrong version then the mounting holes for the pre-load adjuster are upside down and the hose routing is horrible. The casting in effect dictates the location unless another manner of fixing the unit to the bike is taken.

    Yes Duck, I did note yours was a total one off and very well thought out that the standard tray will not allow, guessing you don't use the standard seat either? I'd like to keep this as standard looking as possible.


    The shock has made an amazing difference to the ride, happy is an understatement. It and the Daugherty forks, Brilliant couldn't be happier.


    I think this weekend I am going to stripe the back end down and start again, the handle on the left and the RR on the right is the issue for a neat install with the FI bird.


    I think Beestoys idea might be the way forward, moving the RR over,
    it would give me a good sized space on the left and I could change it to the Mosfet RR (another Mod I never got around to doing) as I am still on the factory original RR.
    I just need to work out in my head the reason Honda did this? and there’s enough airflow near the handle to cool the RR (bit of homework needed I think)


    Look’s like a bigger job than I foresaw but it’s renewing my love a had for tinkering.

    Airflow is a little different as the later versions put it back in the pocket farther so technically it gets more airflow. I run the series R/R on 2 of the birds in my family now and neither one has shown any signs of heat effect on the body panel.

    Yeah that's how I mounted mine, I can get at the adjuster through the hand hole under the tail cowl

    A few years back when I was looking at upgrading the RR the FH020AA was the one to go to, as is now for sale at Jack’s (roadstercycle), But now I see as on the blackbird site and others RR’s advertised with either “mosfet technology” or “mosfet internals”.     My question is Beestoys are these the same/as good as the FH020AA or is it a bit clever marketing?

    I'd be hesitant to go there. I have a suspicion they may be Chinese sourced and a lot of those have been suspect. There is a thread in here that one of the riders posted about knock offs. Jack also has a section on it himself. Looking at the heatsinks on that one is what draws my attention. It looks a bit thin in some areas.
