Looking for a front wheel or can I use the one I have?

Greetings, I am looking for a for wheel for a 97/98. I have a front wheel for a 99 and up.
Does anyone know can I use the later model wheel and what would I need to change?

    Thanks, Jim

Do a search for front wheel swap. If I remember correctly as long as you have a the spacers then you can. Some more board members should chime in and confirm in a while.

I've been rebuilding my BB, got to the front wheel and realized the rotors don't fit on the hubs, @#$%^&*!!!

You need the whole front wheel assembly and axle afaik. I think the fork bottoms are the same, hopefully someone can confirm either way?

Re: Looking for a front wheel or can I use the one I have?

Yes, you need the "full house" front wheel assembly. 1999 to 2003/2007 Wheel, brake rotors, axle, axle spacers. With these parts the wheel assemblies can interchange between model years, carburated (1997-98) machines to Fuel Injection (1999-2003/2007 machines. So it follows that, a carburated machine front wheel needs: Front wheel, brake rotors, axle, axle spacers. With these parts, the carburated model year (1997-1998) front wheel will fit the Fuel Injection machines. The fork lower slider assemblies and brake caliper assemblies and related spacing are the same between all the model years of machine.

I installed a "Fuel Injection" spec front Dymag to my 1998 model year machine by following the above "rules". Attached find pictures of the Dymag wheel with "Fuel Injection" rotors installed to my 1998 XX. The next picture is the stock 1998 wheel assembly on the same bike.

Warning: When/If you change out the wheels between years and models,...maybe your doing a new tire install also,.....be sure to take note (tell your tire tech) the direction of rotation of the wheel. The "flow" of the curved OEM wheel tri-spokes should follow the "bend" of the rear wheel in a "Isle of Man" logo sense. Follow me? Sometimes a lack of attention gets the tire on backward (take notice of the "direction of travel" arrows on the tires as relates to wheel direction of rotation. Also...there are slight differences in the wheel spacers widths...test fitting the wheel and spacers will ensure you get the correct spacing so the brake rotors line up with the brake calipers and such.

+1 As above, I fitted a silver FI wheel with discs, axle and spacers quite a few years back with no issues
I recently acquired a silver rear wheel to make it a matching pair Main reason was discs are easier/cheaper to find for a FI BB than carbed plus I like the silver colour better on my TiBird
