Looking at a pretty good deal on Bridgestone Battleaxes

It's a combo deal through Motosport, but they only have a 130 for the front. Has anyone had issues going to a 130?

Mototsport has the Hypersport S21s for 183 with free shipping. Plus the $60 rebate from Bridgestone. Only problem is the front tire they offer is 130/70 and not a 120/70. Not sure if that will work....

    G'day Cschwartz from Aus,

I would be careful about that 130/70 front profile....... the 120/70 with the 180/55 or 190/50 is such a good combo. Unless someone has tried it I wouldn't experiment (I had a 1994 FZR1000 back in errr 1994 and it came with 130/60? i think and 170/60 rear and was a bucket of shite in corners until I changed to 120/70 & 180/55 = perfect handling!

Just for interest, my 05 BB has a 6% speedo error with a 180/55 rear tyre, and a 9% error with a 190/50 profile....... both handle well, it's just easier to think 10% less 1 for mental speedo corrections......... oh yeah, I use Michelin Pilot Road 4 and they last over 20,000kms (12,500 miles) with tread still above the indicators when I change them.......

I never did gel with Bridgstones when I had them in the early days (oem fittment) as they wore unevenly, the Michelins are dual zone compounds that wear quite evenly and have good wet weather grip (sport touring tyre, not a super sport tyre)..... though you could try the PR5's..... but they won't be cheap.

    Cheers.

I have the PR4 GT'S and really like them. Going to try the T31 EVO'S as two guys that put some serious miles on the BB really like them in all conditions. A set cost me what a rear PR4 GT cost. I get close to 10,000 miles on the rear PR4. What tire pressure do you run?

Re: Looking at a pretty good deal on Bridgestone Battleaxes

    Cheers XX,

I've always used 35psi F and 37psi R (cold check) - a Michelin tech once told me that was the optimum pressure for solo street riding for grip/wear/handling and I have proven him right over many many years/sets of tyres.

The PR5 \'s will not last as long as the PR4's, but they should still go 15,000kms with much better grip for more sporty riding...... though they seem expensive - a set here in Aus is $540...... ouch.

Hmmmm, I always run the PSI that Honda manual suggests. I have run the front softer before I put in my fork kit. Seemed to wear out faster. I may start playing with my pressures again.
