He's not riding a Bird anymore Deadman. He was checking in and saying hello. Rides a V-Strom 1000 now.

Got the Oxfords on my 96 ZX11 along with an LSL conversion kit yet to be put on, awaiting next year to obtain collector plate status for cheap insurance and then I can add my mods following

Re: What have you done to your bird lately?

Whilst Daily Bird is off the road I decided to give it a fork oil change. 2.5 years and 14315 miles since I fitted the andreani cartridges so lets see what is going on inside.
Accepting that I fitted hew sliders when I fitted the cartridges so there will be some 'settling in' I'm still surprised how black the (originally clear) Ohlins fluid is, yikes!

So if you think 'I must get round to doing the fork oil' just do it!

Re: What have you done to your bird lately?

I changed the oil and filter last night... and was looking at the front tire. It's close to needing to be changed... and then I started thinking about when I last changed the fork fluid... Summer of 17. It maybe has 10,000 miles on it. So if I change the tire this winter I will change out the forks too.

Re: What have you done to your bird lately?

Found a weep leak at the back of my cylinder head just to the left of the thermostat Housing. Don't want to drop the engine because it is so minor and my primary transportation. I also suspect it's due to the colder temps were having here now for the winter. Only getting into the mid 60's for a high and dropping into the lower 40's at night regularly. So I put in a pint of Blue Devil Head Gasket Sealer. Stopped the weep in less then 30 seconds but then my water seal pump let go LOL. So pulled the spare off my backup motor and ordered a new one. 30 minutes later she's back up and running. Got to love those Honda Engineers this was about the easiest water pump swap I have ever done.

Not that I am doubting your diagnosis but are you sure it isn't the thermostat housing 'O' ring that is leaking? When mine went it looked just like a head gasket failure (residues on the block) did you actually see coolant coming from the head gasket?

    None indeed good sir.
On a side note it did let me get my fan controller dialed in a bit better. Now it's a bit more in tune with the temp gauge.
