inverted fork swap made easy , anyone interested

Ok I'm almost finished building a 97 bird . I bought it for $1500.00 been sitting for seven years covered by the beach. Its black and in great shape with resonably low miles 22 k . All bare aluminum was removed and powder coated satin black , the header and cans ceramic coated satin black , looks pretty good accept for the forks , the aluminum is pitted so I want to do an inverted fork swap for cosmetics and handeling. I've read most of the fork swap posts and was wondering if there would be an interest in a completely bolt on swap. I have a complete CNC shop and want to make either a complete set of trees or a new stem or both so that the oem bird head set bearing can be used. Being able to choose an oem fork based on performance rather than what fits easy , what would you choose ? I would like to make these products available for trade or sale to fund mote improvements on my bird. I would appreciate any input or sugestions . Also any other parts cnc parts sugestions for the bird would be greatly appreciatedThanks

Hey OP, youre probably set on the fork swap, but the pitting in your forks can be sanded, filled & primed by a competent coater.

Otherwise, ive got a gen 1 busa front end for my bird. To fit it, Youll need to relocate the steering stops on the busa bottom triple, fab a mount for the key tumbler, shave a millimeter off the outer race for one of the steering head bearings & fab a mount for the busa steering dampener if you plan on using it. All the info is here & youre well equipped to complete the project. Should be very straight forward for you. Good luck!

    hey PRDraceFab!
Good to have another machinist onboard! Stick around!

There's a few ideas on billet, cnc stuff for the bird. What you mention is certainly a good one.

Swapping the forks on the bird is not as easy as it may seem. Due to the long fork length, the choice is narrowed down a lot. This is mainly as most of the "litre" bikes have forks that are very short indeed.

A great swap, is the zzr1400, (think 04+) as its got close to perfect length, radial brakes and is of decent quality.
The problem with that conversion is the top yoke, as the bars will hit the fairings in standard trim.
Read TheDuck's thread (building the Duck) as he's done it and it contains valuable info.
A great conversion kit would be a modded stem to go on the bottom yoke and a top yoke to complete the kit.

Good luck man and as I said, stick around. We dont bite.(usually...)
    Cheers!
    Chris

    Will work for parts.

I will be doing a Gen 2 Busa conversion shortly, I have collected everything required and will be arranging hopefully this week. I had a custom riser made for my LSL bars , looks gorgeous, will have annodized black and then I hope to have the project started and finished in a couple of days unless I run into issue with cable lengths which I am hoping I will be able to bypass.

I vote for a 1st gen FZ-1 swap. The length is there, they are plenty stout (large diameter), they come with tubular bars so any ergos are possible, the brakes are good (and cheap), they're decent quality cartridge forks that can be revalved by any number of suspention places, and they're adjustable. If I could get all of the needed parts put together into a bolt-on kit I'd buy one tomorrow.

cisco...an old thread I know. So did you do the gen 2 busa swap? I just picked up another XX and would like to swap the front end...any info would be much appreciated. I have a 2008 busa that I can get the front end from. Do I need everything? Pods and clip ons? front wheel?

Gen2's are 3/8 of an inch short. Gen1's are length match. The 2's have been bolted on so the one's should be able to be done as well. My son runs a gen 1 setup I have the Gen2. You can have a custom top hat made that will use the stock bearings and a modified stock Busa spindle that uses stock Honda bearings and seals. Just takes time for the design and fit and then finding a machine shop to do the work.

Do a thread search for Busa conversions there's a mess of info scattered throughout the board.
Route 191 formerly Route 666 Some say that this section of the
road has 1100 curves in 95 miles.
