Bird strikes Bird=double bubble bites the dust

last week on a day ride into the mountains a small bird flew out of the woods from my left and hit the windshield and went over the top off to the right. I didn't feel it hit and thought it was a near miss. When I got back to the bike garage I saw the double bubble was crazed and you could catch a finger nail on some of the cracks. So I ordered a Power Bronze touring shield and really like it and just tested it out yesterday on a two volcanoe run. 389 miles around Mt. Rainer and then over to Mt. St. Helens. Seems like a lot more still air behind it and really changes the shape of the front end. Only tested it to 140mph which at 61 YO is about my pucker factor on a two lane valley road between mountains. Plus I just finished putting my new LSL super bike type bars on and it is now an all day comfort bike, with lowered pegs and a Corbin seat.

Nice , I have the LSL bars on my 97, however my lines look much neater and are not so out in open like yours, I would have rerouted a bit better. Yes those bars transform the bike and I got them w Speigler bar ends for dirt cheap so I truly love them. It is a real nite and day transformation.

What hi pipe exhaust are you running? I am interested in going to a 4-2-1. CanadianBird and myself are off for a big Washington ride , heading down your way July 1st crossing border at 4am. We are going to ride alot of the good Destination Highway roads. Perhaps you can hook up with us for a ride one day, he is 66, me 44, just loooking to get some good riding in on a 4 day trip. I like the screen, I am using an Iridium Airblade screen and it is great for protection, I may switch to my Zero Gravity ST screen since it is clear and will allow me to mount camera if I decide to bring for some video while on bike

Beautiful scenery and a nice looking ride. Sorry to hear about the damage.... but it absolutely cries out for a comment about 'bird on bird' action!

Re: Bird strikes Bird=double bubble bites the dust

the throttle cables and clutch came with the bar kit from a guy named Scott and he had even higher bars on thus the longer cables, they work fine and so Im going with them cause they were $95 and $45 new and he never used them cause he got hit from behind just after finishing his Bird. Plus my Bird came with Heli bars which I sold for $200 and gave $300 for the LSL and cables = $100 out lay for the whole set up. So Cisco I moved here 4 years ago and have 35,000 miles most here in the mountains and work for myself and can guide as I know all the roads. Look up rt 20 Northern Cascades Highway, rt 2, rt 12, rt 410,rt 123, and best of all rt 706. I've ridden the whole US and those rt's are world class for twisties and up and down elevation. The high pipes are 4-1-2 canisters and are Hindle and I can't find them on their site, I like the weight in close and the bags don't get hot. And on the pipe they are loud but quite in town.

Sorry to hear about the damage but think of the alternative.. on a bike with no fairing those holes could have been in your leathers... and the cracks in your ribs...

I do know someone that hit a sparrow at 140 kph, he complained that his ribs hurt for about 4 weeks.

I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..

But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

    great pics, nice looking bike.
father in law hit a pigeon full in the face at 120 mph on a ride through france last year. smashed his visor and broke his nose. lucky to stay on.
he also had to go buy new helmet on the trip, ouch and ouch.
    it seems quite common.
caught a bee in my eye last year, blurred vision for a week, no more visor up!
    dont ***k with the baldies

Re: Bird strikes Bird=double bubble bites the dust

the mountains in photo's are Mt Rainier 14,000 feet (lower pic) rt 706 Washington state USA, and the others pics are Johnson Ridge road to Mt. St. Helens which was the volcano that blew up a couple of decades ago killing 56 and making the largest landslide in recorded history. And by the way one can fly in to Seattle and rent most any kind of bike to ride around. I have meet many European riders out riding, seriously I've ridden the whole US for 40 years and it rocks out here. We saw a bear and deer last ride and I've also seen a lot of mountain goats and elk, which are quite large and travel in numbers so if you see one there's more.

throttle thingy? you mean the "Cramp Buster" that slips on and you can throttle without your fingers and just your palm pressure=the best $9 dollars one can spend on a bike. www.crampbuster.com

Re: Bird strikes Bird=double bubble bites the dust

www.crampbuster.com I have one of these as well works great. We will get oin touch for our ride. I have ridden a good portion of the Western US, just hoping the weather gets better as it has been pissing out alot more than usual.

I think those bars were the ones I was gonna buy recently off the .org site possibly. I paid $100 for my Speigler bars w weights as well. Since I had HEL SS brake line kit and Galfer clutch line with my Helis I had asked them to make them a tad longer, everything fit really well, big difference with these bars

It's turning into quite a challenging year, to put it mildly. Not complaining, just noting. Postitive, positive, positive.
