Thinking of the members in England that are doing it TOUGH due to the wet conditions experienced over there. Wet conditions??? from what the news tell us its APPALLING.... Six month of rain fall in just 6 weeks! Hoping and praying that the SUN (yellow bright ball in the sky) will appear very soon. STAY DRY AND SAFE!!

I drove along the main road which overlooks the flood plains yesterday and I've never seen it look that way before.....the sun was shining (I know, unusual) and, to me, while looking over and down towards the affected area it seemed more like an ocean not a few flooded areas as you might expect. Ordinarily you see a patchwork of fields, there were no divisions............just water with the top half of trees visible and what looked like half sunken buildings, it was quite an eerie sight and that was from miles away. More heavy rain and wind forecast for tomorrow so it'll just get worse for them. I have spoken to people local to that area and they lay the blame more or less on the failure to dredge the river ways, landowners have received government payment in recent years for not clearing renes in order to allow for water retention.....strangely that fails to get mentioned but has to of impacted on the problem. The various government heads have been finger pointing these last few days instead of getting the people the help they need.......would love to round them up and dump them in a barn somewhere in the middle of nowhere surrounded by acres of water then watch the bottom lips start quivering.

Warning! Brit rant alert!

You're right, Zip. The main picture on the front page of The Guardian today was of two guys pushing a boat with schoolkids, presumably on their way... to school. One of the blokes looked like our esteemed deputy prime minister, so in the brief minute before I had a chance to actually look at the photo, I thought, OK, fair enough, he's rolled up his sleeves and actually gone out and done something useful. Like getting some children to their school. Even just for a photo shoot!

I was wrong. It was my imagination.

An imagination that our government seems to lack completely. It has no bl**dy clue. They can't even do a photoshoot!!!

Our "leaders" couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag, let alone show some actual, for real, "leadership". It's shameful.

OK, I'm going to stop now... this is a bike forum, May.

Breath deeply. Calm down.

All good.

I've never known a Govt that could stop the rain or hold back flood waters. Canadian Govt certainly can't.

Huh?

They certainly can't stop the rain (unless they do some pretty spectacular global cloud seeding, that is). Flood waters are a different matter. There are well established defence systems for that. And they can certainly deploy an army to help beleaguered citizens. They seem to have just figured that out this morning.

Your PM just said no money is too much to help and sent in the army. Maybe he should have sent in the navy. It's a nasty situation you folks are dealing with but you have no money over there. Do you? Maybe time for another Iron Lady?

Well according to our government we have no money and for the last few years Mr Cameron and his team have made us all suffer with there policy's and no one is safe from his wrath of destruction, I agree if our country needs to cut back then fine but not at the cost of so many job losses and misery, he goes on about unemployment levels then puts more people out of work with all the cuts or brings in unfeasible and unreasonable new policy's but in the next breath gives millions to other countries who don't need money off us and now after weeks of our own people who have been marooned in there own homes he suddenly realises they need help and to cover his ass he says I'm here to help with a pocket full of money.. Our country needs change but change for our own people first but he is too busy trying to keep Europe and all the people trying to move here happy first...

Been reading about your water problems of late. Don't feel alone though it's happening all over. It did here last few years, see

Forget the second car in the garage thing. Just get a boat! Maybe a house boat and you can moor off your chimneys.

Good luck to you all.

Just had an evenings commute where I was hanging off and counter-steering just to go in a vaguely straight line, this morning was a 5.30am three figure blast through continual standing water. I'm lucky being in N Somerset (and living up a hill!) the floods can be avoided, I feel for those less fortunate.

......... Must be brutal out in the sticks.
I'm not in the very worst of it but 'brutal' is a fair way to describe it I left work early, had enough of riding in those conditions. Thursday morning threw another spanner at me it chuffing snowed. I go over some higher ground to get to the motorway and suddenly 'white out'. Not forecast and after a front end squirm and couple of rear spins/slides I had to do something that is unusual for me...... I stopped. 10 minutes later and the road was clear.
