guys are worried about cam chain, wow these bikes can go over 200K without needing replacement if they are serviced right, majority of the XX's on this forum have relatively low mileage
Only replaced the tensioner at 23,000 miles, sounds really good again :-)
At over 78000 miles my hard ridden BB's cam chain is showing signs .. even with a new CCT .... and don't get me started on the gearbox
Scrapp at 78k miles man, I think its normal to have a chain (the timing chain is after all a chain!) in need of replacement..
Btw if you ask Partsguy nicely, he can sort you one out very very cheap indeed..
I always go for oem ones, but having said that there is a DID one that is the very same as the oem, in just a different box!
I still found it cheaper to get one off Al...
Now for your gearbox...I think you have a spare motor right? Wanna sell this motor with the noisy tranny then?
Well ... the noisy engine is now out and sitting in my shed (with 3 sheared oil pipe bolts! Those little things just completely rusted through ... doh!) and the unknown engine that I had as a spare is in the frame ... I need to build it all back up and test it before I decide what I'm going to do with the old engine, my original idea was to strip and rebuild if this other engine is any good .. but saying that, If this other is good I might just let the old one go .. I'll keep you posted Chris
Flippin hell man!
That was fast!
Hehe, glad to hear you make progress man! Sounds like a good plan to me mate!
Good luck with it Scrappy, make your nickname proud and make it all work man! I'm sure you'll be fine in the end and get a propper nice smooth motor!
Hope it all works well for you and do let me knoe if you decide to let the motor go please... Got the frame and front and rear ends of a Z1k along with wheels, so that'll be a special bike man!
Cheers buddy and good luck!
Yes, the camera's have ruined it as my local 'ride out'. Still plenty of good roads about. Wales is now the place to go!
Just got back from the Nurburgring, bike was good, the new CCT doing its job, braided hoses made a noticable difference.
Apparently you can pass a camera - turn off the cat & fiddle road - do 60 on the shortcut - then re-join the cat & fiddle road and pick up a speeding ticket at the next camera.
The cameras on the other roads are all linked, see MCN comment below.
"They will also be put on a stretch of the A54 which joins the A537. Both roads have a 50mph limit.
All of the cameras will be linked together and vehicles constantly monitored within the speed control zone. Riders who progress between any two of the devices too quickly will be issued with a prosecution notice. In the past average-speed cameras have only been linked in pairs, measuring speeds from one to the next along a single lane of traffic".
Time for the Ghost R1der plates
is the bag of marbles all the time or just sometimes?
What's special about the X11 tensioner?
