    Fuel Tap / petcock leak

Bike was stinking of fuel when I left it parked up, took the tank off last night and found fuel dripping from the bottom of the fuel tap (from the bottom hole).

ive seen fuel tap repair kits on eBay, are there any which are to be avoided, which ones are good? Can’t seem to find any in the UK?

do Honda do an official seal kit?

bike is a 97 carb model...

K&L supply makes a “made in Japan” kit to rebuild the vacuum petcock on the ‘98. They are available in the US so not sure about UK availability. i had to rebuild mine a few months ago.

I called my local honda shop and kits were not available. I could buy the valve for about $200 US dollars. They were available.

Thanks for the reply, I’ve ordered one from the USA, should be here in a couple of weeks, the ones from japan and China wouldn’t have been with me until November!

are they quite simple to take apart and replace the internal seals?

    Yep
Biggest issue is folks putting the vac line on the wrong port. You're going to want to check your oil as well. When these fail it will dump fuel into the crankcase and the bearings don't take kindly to that at all.

road has 1100 curves in 95 miles.

Thanks for the advice, I might as well give it an oil change and service while the tank is off.
