    Re: Aluminum Radiator?

After a 3 hour refit, I got my new GPI Racing rad in. Painted it flat black with a light spray of Tremclad high heat paint.
It fit okay but I will have to mod the inner cowl or move the oil cooler so that it fits better.
I put Evans High Performance coolant in as well she runs alittle better but the temp is still quite high for my liking.
Its been 30-34C in Toronto so I know that has an effect.
Is it possible my water pump is not working property when it gets too hot ?
When the coolant temp gets under the H, it doesn't seem to go down, even with the fan on.

    Re: Aluminum Radiator?

I bought one off "Fleabay", Chinese last summer. I have a post on it on this forum. It's now Almost Feb and I haven't had one problem. The bike runs a tad cooler and the radiator appeared to be well built and welding was fine. Live in the Lower part of Florida and ride 4-5 days a week in +80-90 degree temps almost daily. Can't find fault with it.

    Re: Aluminum Radiator?

Did you put a new radiator cap on as well.?
it is very possible an impeller rusted off .but as long as it doesn't get hotter and boil over I would say ..that pretty much seems like normal running according to most here !
if you are that concerned , I would get an oil temperature gauge ,if the oil is hot then there is a problem .

    Re: Aluminum Radiator?

Hi all, I have a 1998 BB that has developed a radiator leak. I have tried to buy a new one from the dealer but was told that part is unavailable and can't be purchase anymore, at least not in the US where I live. I am wondering if the radiator may still be available in Europe? Can anyone suggest a large Honda dealer from western Europe that I can contact that may have inventory?

Any help would be extremely appreciated!

    Re: Aluminum Radiator?

The OE part you are looking for has indeed been discontinued, even David Silvers don't have it https://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/...t_19010MAT003/ Even searching Honda Europe (through Fowlers) draws a blank https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/parts...d-kph/radiator . There have been many instances of Bird owners buying Chinese copies, they aren't bad (I have a spare in my attic!) although the overflows don't always line up perfectly. Suggest that will be your best option.

    Re: Aluminum Radiator?

Thanks for your reply Duck, I have seen a number of post here although there does seem to be some fitment issues from what I have read. Do you know if what ever alterations that are needed to make the Chinese replacement fit would require only modifying the new radiator and not the bike.

    Re: Aluminum Radiator?

Yes the mods that are sometimes needed are to the rad not the bike. The only issue that usually surfaces is with the angle of the overflow pipe. This can be solved either with a little heat and bending or if you like plumbing a small angled fitting. Having seen a few Chinese 'copies' the things to look out for are the welding and also the amount of welding, some appear to have been made of 3 pieces of aluminium when one bent piece would have done .... There are a fair few on this forum who have fitted and photographed their rads, look for one who sells in the US, if I give you a recommendation you will be killed with postage

btw my spare Chinese rad cost approx $70, the last time I saw an OE rad (states vendor) they cost over $500 or I could have paid £730 (@ $900) if you bought in the UK!

    Re: Aluminum Radiator?

Thanks again for your advice. I was never a fan of aftermarket parts but I may have no choice unless I can find a good used OEM one. Do you know if there is any particular one of these that is the best quality or are they all from one company?

    Re: Aluminum Radiator?

If the engine is running hot, well the water system, how about a different thermostat that opens at a slightly lower temp if such is available for the BB or maybe the existing thermostat is duff?

I've been looking at Chinese ali rads on Ebay and the welding looks dreadful even the one in the link up thread. Many years ago I had an ali radiator made for a car engine upgrade and whilst the rad cost a lot, it was a work of art. If going bespoke is it poss to make the BB radiator core any thicker to improve cooling efficiency? Even a bespoke ali rad made in the UK would be cheaper than a new OEM Honda one if they were available.
