    Re: 954 electrical/computer wiz

Well....I guess it's up to me to state the obvious. Duster...this is a CBR-1100xx Super Blackbird web site. Yeah, I knew you knew that. For sure the 954 and Fireblade lines share some technology to a degree with the XX, at a guess. But most single machine owners here may not be able to help specifically with the 954 Blade. I've got a good friend who's riding one (954), but I don't know how well he knows his machine to the degree you might need when you start talking ECU/computer issues. Now having said all that..... If you provide a bit more info related to your problem or needs, maybe somebody here can help..or point the way to help.

The XX does have it's own ECU issues at times, related to the factory "loom plug" and corrosion issues at that plug, which in turn lead to ECU troubles and sometimes an ECU failure. The fix can be simple but costly...replace the machines wiring harness and ECU,..in some cases is the only cure.

I'm riding a carbureted 1998 XX so do not have the Fuel Injection control module/ECU to worry about. I think the carb ECU, is a much more simple animal, so my FI trouble shooting knowledge is extremely limited. That said..I've got a 2007 Fireblade 1000RR/R, but have had no issues with it in it's OEM stock form.

Not much help I know, but....

    Re: 954 electrical/computer wiz

Thanks guys,my question is somewhat generic.you gearheads out there know about chevy ls swaps and using factory computers.you also know about the way the wiring harnesses are depinned to delete the systems that the user doesn't want/need the computer to control.so,my question is...on a drag race only bike.can the cbr harness be depinned to delete certain functions,ie bank angle.kick stand up or down and things like that?thanks

    Re: 954 electrical/computer wiz

Perhaps the easy way to de-pin is simple to jumper the device to the normal run position rather then tamper with computer code changes ( if code changes is what your after?). Side stand kill feature for instance, just figure out if the circuit should be open or closed then remove the side stand switch and hard wire the connection to keep the motor running.

Some switches may may need to be closed circuits and others open, but I for one can not tell you which is which.

Idea! The Blackbird motor is often used as the power source in the small kit cars like CaterHam 7 ( what I believe started as one of Graham Chapman’s open cockpit Lotus race/sports car designs). The guys running this motor/chassis combo might be well versed in the tweaks to the harness that you seek. In fact one of the members here has a super charger on/in one. Perhaps he can share some insight? I’ll see if I can search him up.

edit: heres a link to the blown bird motor Caterham 7 project build: https://www.cbrxx.com/engine-airbox-...irdengine.html Lots interesting reading and beautiful workmanship located in that thread. Hope this helps.

    Tiger
I am thinking most of the car kits use a stand alone computer not from the factory. I have only heard of one possible company over in Europe that has cracked the BB code.

    Duster
the problem is that no one has cracked the BB code unlike the LT and LS chevy's. Without the commands you are effectively locked out. Also dependent upon the system if the BB computer doesn't have an EE prom it can't be over written. The early Chevy LT's had a PROM that had to be pulled and programmed off the board. I suspect because of the year that the BB is the same system. I am also betting it is potted so even if you could get the case open you'd find a big black brick.
Route 191 formerly Route 666 Some say that this section of the
road has 1100 curves in 95 miles.

Bees. Will not disagree with you on any points you mention. I’m very much out of the loop on such things. Totally agree that late model computers can re tuned for most any given need or engine state of build.
