They were heat shrunk then electrical taped. Took some getting apart actually.

New stator time again. As an aside the copper wire inside the yellow jacketing is all verdigris (green and crispy) like it is old or something.

There is a wizard locally who does stator re-winding so may try him.

Failing that it is new ring, new gasket and away we go again...

Hard to believe you get 0.00 V all three ways. At what rpm?

With engine off, what is resistance all three ways?

Edit: question, is the meter set on dc volts? hard to tell, should be ac

Well spotted fizzy, looks like it is- to clarify should be on ac(volts with sine wave symbol). Also cut back to clean copper. May be redo test time
    The answer is 42

Re: Not charging (again) - 4th time in <3 years

    Ham-steamed gentle-wangs, I was wrong.

I am not adept at doing electrickery, a fact pointed out by Fizzy above.

I was using the wrong setting on my multi-meter.

The plot (as well as the multimeter owner) thickens...

All combinations of 3 wires read up to 80v when revved. The stator is not goosed.

I removed the reg rec and have observed some evidence of embuggerance (see snaps).

I think it has roasted itself as the bloody connector block has begun to deform, seemingly through heat.

Is the next test to get a new reg-rec and see if that fixes it?

Also, is 80v at 5krpm too much? Is that why the RR is goosed?

Thanks for showing me where I was going wrong and helping me fix my bike.

    F

80V ok. Now load test it.

Repeat test using 120V 60W (or equal) incandescent bulb instead of the multimeter. Bulb should burn bright all 3 times when revved.

If good then you either have bad wiring and/or a bad R/R. Honestly, I would upgrade to a genuine mosfet FH020AA or better yet a SH775/ SH847. Your present unit can be used as a paperweight. Check out this site Home. Sorry, don't know where to buy in UK. Anyway, follow advice from site and wire R/R directly to the battery.

Fizzy got the SH847 on mine. Obtained from roadstercycle.com. Not available over here far as I know. Can you point me to a 120v bulb in the UK? PMSL

With 50M people over there surely someone has at least one? Anyway, try a 240V 25W and see what happens.

yes but it really bu..ers up pacemakers!

Foeux you should have a PM. If I have seen your photos correctly the red/white (s) appear to have issues, these are 12v live feeds (from starter relay also go to ignition and clutch diode - no fun reading the wiring dia at 4am so I hope I have got that right!) .... It might be simply an issue with this connector that you are experiencing, see my pm.

Has anybody else ever seen melting of this plug before? Can't say I have, but there again who knows what condition my memory is in!

You'll want to replace that housing. Check that lugs tightness to the blade. I have seen them get partially spread and as a result add a bit of resistance. Then once its loaded it can start a cascading effect. The connector heats up and loosens a bit more creating higher resistance that escalates the cycle. If you look a the female side you will see that the connector has 2 open loops that curl in to make the mating socket for the blade. What can happen is they can be misaligned and when pushed together spread open a bit. You can tighten them back up by carefully squeezing the connector housing with a large set of pliers. That should hold you over until you can replace the housing
