Issue affecting temp Gauge, Fuel Gauge and Clock

Hi all, I think this is my first post, but I've been thankful for other stuff many times.

I've got an interesting one. Occasionally, my fuel gauge and temp gauge will both go sky high. They won't come back down until the ignition is turned off, at which point the clock numbers will fade. Switiching it back on sends the guages sky high again and the clock will have reset. Then, after a while, it'll go back to normal.

Anyone experienced anything similar, or got any ideas on where to start to look for this? I'm assuming there's some form of short somewhere, maybe, but I'm not too great with electrics on bikes.

Cheers for any help with this one!

    thanks, Bertie..

Re: Issue affecting temp Gauge, Fuel Gauge and Clock

Good afternoon, Bertie. Not an electrical guru myself, but was having and issue with my tach awhile back. It was a bad ground screwing up my lights, clock and tach. It was located in the upper left fairing. There is a large plug and you can get to it by removing the inner L side dash fairing. One push pull, one chrome allen screw and one windsheild nut. The plug is protected by a large clear plastic wrap. One one side, the green ground wires enter. That's where my problem was. I just hard wired the ground to circumvent the problem and it hasn't shown it's ugly head again. Two months gone by. If I can find the post I submitted under headlight problems I'll send a link. I had pics of the plug.

Headlight Gremlin back again. Bertie, the pics here might help with the plug location. ??? Easy enough to get to and rule out anyway. Good luck.

Thanks, gives me a few things to check. Will also generally look at connectors and gunk with some dielectric grease stuff.

MrZander, I'm just getting around to looking at this. I've found info on the FI loom fix, but not the others, ie. the one under the fuel tank and the one in the nose. Any chance you happen to have links at all, or can point me in the right direction? thanks!
