Disappointed with Clear Alternatives (kind of a rant) UPDATE:CLEAR ALTERNATIVES SUCKS

It all started a couple months ago when i got a clear alternatives light for my bird. Clear Alternatives was out of stock on the clear, so i had to get the smoked. Which wasnt a big deal, i actually like the smoke more than the clear now. It took me a while to track down all the parts for the tail to return it to stock. I finally got everything and plugged in my brand new clear alternatives integrated taillight.... and it didnt work. Half the leds didnt light up, including all the ones for the right signal. So I called Clear Alternatives to see how to get a replacement, as they offer warrenty. I called and they said to send it in and they could send the replacement the day that they recieve it. Well I talked to them a week after i sent it back and the light is back ordered until late Nov or early December according to Clr alt.

I guess all in all its not the worst. From what i could tell from the semi working light, the fully functional one should be really nice. and at least its not great riding weather to have it on backorder. Just more a hassel than anything.

That sucks. Did you ask them what DO they have in stock? (sarcastically, of course)

Yep Im not too fond of them either. One of my lens has a rock chip in it and I will have to buy another set. They wont sell just one. Kinda dumb I think.

Billypf... Man that rots. At least it sounds like they are going to make good on it.
Looks like somewhat nice weather this weekend although a touch on the cool side for longer rides. I don't have a lot of cold weather gear. I was hoping that the family would surprise me with some gerbing heated gear for my Bday but that didn't happen. Oh well.

I don't expect to see more front and rear clear lenses available for the Bird until the end of May 09
That is according to the Operations Manager at Clear Alternatives

did you post 5 months later or did they need 5 months for shipping a new one?

Re: Disappointed with Clear Alternatives (kind of a rant)

They needed the 5 months to ship the new one out. All in all it took me around 7 months from when i first ordered it, until i got the a working one. But now that i have it, its great.

Did you fit the front led indicator bulbs and led indicator switch.

Re: Disappointed with Clear Alternatives (kind of a rant)

Correction to last post.... still unhappy with the quality of clear alternatives because my friend pointed out to me today that my light was really hard to see. So i take a look and Half the LED's are out again. The same thing that happened with the last one. So Deathwish, at this point it is good advice to stay away from Clear Alternatives.

I will be calling this coming week to try and get another warranty replacement, hopefully it doesnt take another 7 months to get it and hopefully this one will actually work and stay working.

Re: Disappointed with Clear Alternatives (kind of a rant) UPDATE:CLEAR ALTERNATIVES S

the best vendors for the bike that ive come across are of course the johns.... john(jaws) gratefully sent me a new valve cover indicator that blew out while i was on my 150 mile trip... by the time i got home i ended up w/ 15PSI in the rear tire.... oddly enough i didn't even notice a difference in handling... i plan on buying a windscreen from him at the beginning of the month (MRA Vario) and he told me to just e-mail him and he would send me a new set of screen grommets since mine are pretty much flat..... never seen better private companies then our johns...

Re: Disappointed with Clear Alternatives (kind of a rant) UPDATE:CLEAR ALTERNATIVES S

The funny thing is that we are good friends and supply each other across the pond almost weekly
But the best part is we both have the exact same name, first and last and through our common love of a certain motorcycle we have become very close and spend a week together each year, Jaws will be here in 2010 on Holiday
His wife is lovely as well. Looking forward to hosting them both here in the States next year.
I am referred to as Florida John when over there since we are both named John Smith.

I just shipped 30 pair of the Bird Clear Alternatives signal lenses over to him last week.

Clear Alternatives still sucks... they have not responded to two emails now about the status of their stock for the integrated unit for a 97, as mine has crapped out once again.

On a random chance, John is there anything you can do to help me here as you have a good relationship with this vendor.

sounds exactly like acumen... they worked with me for a day then apparently just "forgot" about me...

DeathWish, go back to Acumen. I found them to be very reputable and mine works fine. I encourage you to get back to them but don't be too ornary. I've learned the hard way, use honey, not vinigar. Good Luck

Your best bet is to give them a phone call at 866-CLR-LENS. Mat is the name of the Operations Manager and Frank is the name of the Owner.

I personally have never had a problem not taken care immediately with a phone call.

Hope that is some help
