    HyperPro Springs

I've decided that the stock suspension needs overhaulin' and hyperpro combi kit is the way forward.

Now, I'm strugging with which spring rate to go with, progressive, rising rate or standard. Also, while i'm at it I have been thinking about drilling out the stock valves to reduce the compression damping and drop oil weight to 7.5wt.

So, any tips, do's and don't, or your expierence would be appreciated!!

    Re: HyperPro Springs

Most places will drop the oil weight to 5wt, but this also depends on how you ride. I don't have Hyperpro so cannot comment on that. As for drilling the valves, it will take out some of the harshness, but would probably need reshimming as well to get it ideal.

The 'bird is generally considered to be overdamped & undersprung, so lighter oil and right spring for your weight is generally a good way to go.

I had my forks overhauled by a specialist & Gold Valves installed, well worth it as they also put in the right springs for my weight & riding style, 5wt oil and reshimmed to suit. They also did the rear for me as well.

    Re: HyperPro Springs

My front rebuild was easy. I hung around all Bird sites reading and getting sense of what was available and what peeps did. I ask many questions of John at Jaws. I installed 100 mm over length springs, Ohlins I think, and 100 mm shorter spacers. I installed pre load adj from Jaws. I have RaceTec Gold Valves installed with synthetic 5 wt, I think. The rear is a Penske remote ride hight adj. It's been on for a couple of riding seasons. I plan to take her to a suspension "specialist" this summer for set up with me on the bike. Cheers, C B

    Re: HyperPro Springs

I love the Hyperpro progressive springs. I've sold over 300 kits for Blackbirds here in Holland, and everybody (except for 1 customer) loves them. The big advantage is that the bike rmains smooth over bumps, but is firm when you ride hard or under heavy load.
The factory (here in Holland) does suggest strongly to reshim the front for better braking.....

Reshimming is changing the shims in the front fork to adjust the damping of the front end.

    Re: HyperPro Springs

I have the Hyperpro progressive spring in the rear and for a few bucks it was an improvement.

A can't find anything wrong with the stock forks. The sag came out correctly for my 220 + gear.

I can sell them to you, but I've found it's actually cheaper for you to buy in the USA. Even for me (a Dutch dealer) it's cheaper to buy in the USA than here in Holland where they are manufactured.

I didn't notice you were in Greece. I've sold Hyperpro and tires before in Greece...... Your prices are crazy indeed!
You can e-mail me if you want info. The Hyperpro 3-D shock I can sell you for about 750 Euro including shipping! The springs for about 130 Euros.....
