Hi there Birdies.
My discs (front and rear) were under the service limit. All three discs were 3.9 mm. The service limit is 4.0 (original new thickness is 5.0 mm.)
I drove 77000 km.(48000 miles) with the discs. I think that is a good value.
I am curious if you guys changed discs so please add the mileage and the thickness of your discs at the time of replacement.
and if you didn't please tell me the current values. (mileage and thickness)

I asked my tech to measure the thickness. All within specs, 02 Bird, 130,000 kms.

I replaced the disks on my '98 but it was years ago and I don't remember what they were down to or how much they had done. |

I think me checks again as it's been a while. I'm religious about oil, lube, chain, pads, and filter and plug and fork oil but kinda forget to mic out the disks.

If you have thickness to go, I guess you could. But unless it's warped or badly grooved, why bother?

no you cannot shave a bike rotor there just isnt enough thickness to do so

My friend jus clocked 150 000km mileage...still no disc change.Well within the limits...Maybe its the type of brake pads that you are using that affects the disc.

Commuting, slow infrequent rides are easier on brakes, and the bike, than say track days, stoppies and generally rambunctious riding. Also, from a different thread, it seems most don’t use the back brakes except in certain circumstances.

Does anyone know how to or what the secret is to pry all 3 pistons down on the rear brake calipers? I cannot fit my new pads in without prying all 3 pistons down simultaneously. |

After that, remount the old brake-pads, and use a big screw-driver as leverage to push them back. This should go quite easy. If the system is clean you can even push them back by hand.....

I leave the old pad in and press the caliper against the disc. Then pull the caliper back, remove the old pad and put the new one in. Usually done by hand with no problem.
