Don't see anything like that for the roads | Maybe the figure that trying those sort of extreme lean angles on a sport/touring tyre like the PR2 is just going to mean major damage so no point listing it |

I for one would love tire companies to make chosing a tire less confussing. Try comparing compounds on a none race tire and that is something far more strait foward as carcass. I figue they are banking on brand loyalty.

We have several MPR2 BB-riders who are scraping the fairing in corners, just like the MPP-riders do, and keeping up in all circumstances.
You could conclude that the difference in riders is far greater than the difference in tires......

I have used all the big makes of tyre and have to swear by the Metzler tyres, the sportec is the best for the twisties but limted mileage but for normal/medium riding including weekend blasts it has to be the metzler Road tec

Just put a set of Pillot Powers on my BB. What a great fealing leaning my bike into a turn and it just dives into the corner. I will know how I like them after a nice 5 day ride into Canada. No more flat centers from to many freeway miles. Just a tires that want to lean over and have some fun. |

just put on a set of Shinko's Raven Radial 009 Sport Touring... had a set of Shinko's prior that I got about around 10k miles off of. Note that I don't do any real aggressive style riding, other than cracking the throttle down the interstate every now and then ....

I have 005's on at the moment and have done ~7000km on them and while the front looks like I could get a couple of thousand k's more out of it the rear was squared off and down to the wear bars at ~6500km and now has a flat spot ~2 1/4" wide in the middle .
I will go back to the PP on the front I think when it wears out and will get a PR2 in the next week or so for the rear as I got 10000km out of the previous PR rear and it handled better and gripped better and was only ~$100 more for the set
BTW I do ride it pretty hard and do a few corners on my 65km commute to work so the sides do get some good wear as well |

I would still say I got my money's worth outta them.

I have ridden over 30,000 miles in the last 10 months, and have used several different rear tires......the best so far has been the Pirelli Diablo Strada. Next week I am trying the Pirelli Corsa III. Worst tire so far has been a Bridgestone.

Hi,
I´m going to change the XX´s tires...
I dont know if I buy a Pilot road II or a Metzler M1 or a M3... Any guess ?
I ride a lot on hiways with no curves here, and I´d like a tire with a good mileage.
Thanks !

Thanks ! | Then you should go for the MPR 2ct or Metzeler Roadtec Z-6.

Hi Mancrius, let us know your thoughts on the MPR2's after you've had a chance to break them in.

I just bought a 1998 XX with Dunlop Qualifiers and while they have a ton of tread left (I don't know the age or mileage), they are a very odd handling tire. They are very flat in the middle which makes them very stable in a straight line but also makes them tough to turn in - a'la Buell Firebolt. Once you get the bike to drop into a turn, it drops fast! I had Bridgestone sport-touring tires on a VFR800 and they were far more willing to turn in and so so almost telepathically.

I got a strada rear and when I'd break hard it would slide even on slow turns. I guess it wasnt as sticky as the dunlop qualifiers I switched to quickly. The rear qualifier is 1 size wider and the set handles great and grips great but I only have 3000mi. o them and Ill have to replace the rear in a thousand or so more. I like the strada pattern but I guess they arent as soft as the dunlop. I think I only put 100mi. on the strada. Any suggestions on the strada???I ride fast and hang alot of curves so what should I replace the dunlop rear with??? Im keeping the front for awhile...thanx

This year I'm running Pilot Power 2CT front, and Pilot Road 2 rear. Looking forward to trying out this promising combo..!

Yesterday I went to the dealer-introduction of the new Dunlop Roadsmart in Holland. This looks to be a promising tire in the Sport-touring segment.
According to several independant tests these are the best ones in their range, even better than the Metzeler Z-6 and the Michelin Pilot Road 2. I haven't tried them yet, but I will......

Metzeller M3/M3 - fast warming-up, excellent predictability on wet road and good tire life (~16000km front/8000km rear)
Also I tested Bridgestone BT10/BT20 (too hard), Pirelli Diablo/Diablo (bad traction on wet), Dunlop 208/220

When I purchased my FJR1300 last month, it came with Avon Storms (same sizes as the Blackbird uses) that had about 2,700 miles on them. The first thing that I noticed was the strange squirming and thumping in the front tire. Almost felt like riding on a dirt bike knobby. There was also a bouncing sensation while on the highway and quite a bit of handlebar shake. I found that the tire was manufactured in January of 2007.
Nevertheless, I rode the bike for approximately 2,000 additional miles and decided to call Avon before I purchased a set of Michelin Pilot Roads for the bike. Good thing that I called them...
Avon replaced the tire under warranty even though I was not the original purchaser and the tire has almost 5,000 miles on it. During the winter, I'll just replace the rear and should have a great set of tires on the bike throughout most of next summer.
I've read that the Avon corrected this early defect and that the current Storms are pretty decent tires. If this turns out to be true, and with Avon's level of customer service...I may stick with Storms. I understand that they also have a road hazard warranty.
FWIW... when I mentioned the longevity of Azaros on my Blackbird, Avon told me that the Storms won't get the mileage that the Azaros did.

I just bought my 'bird ... it came with a nearly worn out Azarro on the front, and a brand new Storm-ST out back. I've run Metzelers on every road bike I've owned previous to this ... but am willing to try the new tire, and have read good things about the Storms. So, new front going on asap ... Storm or not???

| I am just finishing my 1st Strada and will be buying another--IMHO a great tire. Sticks every bit as good as the Pilot Road, turns quicker than the Roads---and I'm getting a little more milage out of them 6,826 on it now probably have 500/750 miles left. I change shortly after they hit the wear bars. The previous tire (Diablo) went 4,980 and the Pilot Road went 5,868 when I picked up a nail---may have had 500 more miles in it.
As for the braking/sliding issue--you may want to review your braking technique---especially if you have stock springs up front and stiff arm when you use the front brakes hard. Sounds like you are either using too much rear brake or too much for the conditions (heavy front braking on verge of doing a 'stoppie'. The more weight you move up front by by braking or body position, the less weight is on the rear wheel and so it will slip very easily. Give it some thought---the best, most sticky tire can't stick at all if it's in the air. The closer you are to the 'in air' mode the quicker the tire will slide.
Hoping you find what works for you, happy trails kel
