Hi, Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone is using a 200/50ZR17 on the back of their XX. This is such a beefy bike and I think it would look better than with the stock 180. If anyone knows about this sort of modification, what is involved other than maybe the 6.5" rim upgrade? Is there enough space in the foward part of the swingarm to accommodate the added width? Will anything drag the sidewall (chain, brake linkage, etc)? If it helps, I am not a racer or hot-dogger type. I want the fat-tire looks without getting too radical. Thanks for the input.

I like cornering my bike too much to put a 200 or even a 190 on my XX. I think the looks speak for themselves as is but from a show perspective I think it may look cool. That single sided swing arm with a 200 would LOOK great stretched out about 2" or so. my2cents

I don't think you can do it! I took mine in last week to Honda and inquired as to putting a 190 on the rear. They said not a good idea. Not much room and I could imagine a 200 would be far worse. The bike is designed for the 180 in regard to handling. I too wanted a wider tire, not concerned with racing, so size was irrelevant. But if you get it to work, let me know how. That would look better!!

Yes the xx will take a 200 tire with no mods. Had it on my friends 97. I just put a 190 on my 2003 with no proplems at all

I wouldn't go over a 190 on the stock rim.

Throw some pics up of that 200. I'm curious on how they look on the Bird

heisti... I agree with your thoughts on this tire option. I wouldn't do it just to look cool. I would only do it if there was a practical reason or application for doing it.

There is a practical reason for it.... The bird can eat a 180 tire up without trying. I went through a 180 tire in about 5000 miles cause its spins to much under accelerating. My last tire I went with a 190 thats much sticker to prevent some of this and it works great so far. I want my tire to spin when I want it to not when it wants to

Outlawgibbs.. Yes there are practical applications for a wheel that size.
Drag racing comes to mind. Looking cool is not a practical application. I'm also OK with the looking cool factor if someone wants to go that route. I too like the look of a big rear tire. I wouldn't do it myself on the bird unless I was planning on doing some drag racing.

Hi, if you do a lot of straight roads then fine, but be warned it definately upsets the handling, if you go scratching a lot then you'll find the bike wont "drop into corners" anywhere near as quickly...also it may not touch the swingarm under normal conditions but in heavy cornering the distortion of the carcass may well mean it will !! My mate with a VFR "viffer" put a hugger on with a good 1/8th to 3/16ths clearance..one good ride later it was melted by the tyre...you've been warned!! But hey my bike did'nt handle that well in France recently with a 180 section tyre...well no tyres do on diesel fuel!!!

Side views you really can't tell the difference but the rear view is what I like!! I will be sure to get that size on my next one.
Thanks Outlaw!!

It looks significantly lower than mine. I have a 6mm shim installed on mine, but even before that it looked like a lot more clearance back there.

Mario | Your right, I lowered it an inch in the back for better launches and a better ride

I have a 190 on my XX but I am also running a 6.0 wide rear dymag rim. If you start putting a larger tire than what properly fits on a stock rim you will basically mushroom the tire. You can put a 200 on a 5.5 rim but it will sit taller and the bike will not corner well at all. For normal daily riding it will be fine but I do not nor do the manufactures recommend it. Food for thought when the GSXR1000 first came out it came stock with a 190 rear tire however race teams still ran 180's as they turned in faster lap times.
