Thanks, i know thats what in the manual but the guys at the local Honda shop vowed 36 in front on big bikes they say better feel.
I dont know as have not had 42 and wondered what the difference would do?
Different tyres, different pressures. Ask the manufacturer. Myself, i have Metzler Road Tecs 01, 42 front 42 rear. Feels fine to me but i aint no expert.
I am using Michelin PR4 and use Hondas recommended pressures, 42 psi. Works well, I have also found that the Blackbird is very sensitive to variations in tire pressure, maybe thats just me.
Road pilot 3 on front and rear, tried different pressures but find 42f 42r to be the best, seems to turn into the corners easier as find the compound on the pilots a bit soft..
For get your shop guys. I spoke to several Dunlop techs last year at one of the races I worked. They told me for the street run what the manufacture recommends (f42,r42) other wise you are just using up your tires. If your going out running twisties for a day then you may want to drop both a few psi. Over all I run the max and haven't had any problems with sticking, even in tight corners, 90% of the time.
I think Honda would have put a lot more r&d into the correct tyre pressures than your local tyre shop. If you've been running 36F for awhile, try 42 and enjoy a better handling bike
You should start with factory recommended pressure and ride it, later on you can adjust pressure and feel the difference. The best would be to check and change pressure when tyres are cold, but it is not easy to manage. However you must be sure to put the correct tyres to you bike, that means the weight index(reinforcement) of the tyre must suit to the bird otherwise you can feel strange behavior of the bike and you will think that something is wrong with the bird, but it is not
For daily use I run road attacks, but for track I use Dunlop qualifiers. Sometimes I drive with the qualifiers to the track and the best pressure is the factory recommended, but on track I do usually lower the pressure. There was one case where I had to go down with the rear pressure to 1,9 bar(28psi) because of the heat/surface conditions.
I'm using 42/42 but it was difficult at first getting use to 42 in front tyre.
