Nice! BY the way, which part needs to be replaced from the BB?
I can see from the pictures that of course:
a) the both forks
b) The triple clamp (top and bottom)
c) what else?
Did you keep the stock wheels of the bb, etc?
Please give complete list cos i am also very keen in this modification. How about VTR SP2, can the parts be used too, are they similiar?

i believe SP2 forks are slightly shorter but should still work
i have used
SP1 forks
SP1 Bottom triple (cant use SP2 as design was changed)
954 Top triple
SP2 front wheel and axle
954 Helibars
CBR600F4i brake master cylinder ( to retain stock look) you can use sp1 but it tends to block the speedo
Goodrich braided lines
I still need to get a CBR600F4i rear master as the stock bird rear master doesnt have a big enough piston to pump the fluid through 2 lines because of de-linking brakes
oh and i need to learn to ride again cause the thing turns in so nice now

That Leopard skin in the background would look good as a seat cover.

So how much did it set you back? Were the parts from new or 2nd hand?

| Hi
Love the SP1 front end conversion, any photos of the back brake? Curious about how the CB600 components integrate with the standard BB ones.
I posted a request for TSR caliper brackets to change the front brake setup but, this is waaaay more trick!!
Was it really a bolt on job or was there machining to be done too???
Thanks

Is it possible to keep the DCBS working with these forks?

Did you use the stock BB brake disc or is that an after market version. If it is an after market one, what size is the disc (diameter)?
I have an after market Galfer discs now on my front and would like to keep them.
Also the 954 helibars, i have a VFR clip-on on the bike now and would not like to waste it. Do you think i can also keep that on my present bike now.
i might use:
SP1 forks
SP1 Bottom triple (cant use SP2 as design was changed)
954 Top triple
SP2 front wheel and axle
VFR Clip-ons (43mm)
Brembo brake and clutch levers with master cylinders (not sure yet)
Hel braided lines
PLease assist cost the project will cost me a bomb becos here in my country we hardly can find 2nd hand stuff. Appreciate in advance. |

Not sure about the rest but you would need the brake disc's for a SP2/RC51 as that would be what fits the wheel
You will need different clip ons as the SP1 forks are USD and as such are ~50mm at the top
You may have trouble finding a Brembo MC that fits |

Dude,
Great work! You have put in a lot of effort onto your "project" bike and took the time to see what would and wouldn't work for that application. It's a good thing you don't live in S.E. Florida though. We don't have ANY curvy roads over here. If you lived here, none of that fine work would have ever been done!

Hello Birdman:
Let me start off my thanking you for all the info you have already posted on the cbrxx website in regard to the RC51 front end swap on the Blackbird.
I am currently completing the installation of the RC51 (SP1) front end on my 2002 1100XX. I have several questions for you as follows:
1. Did you have to modify the steering stops on the RC51 steering stem (lower triple) to work with the 1100xx? What was involved if you did make a modification to the stops.
2. The lower bearing on the RC51 steering stem is a 35x55x14 (IDxODxH in mm) and the original 1100xx bearing is a 30x55x17. Did you shim the lower bearing in your installation in any way? Did you use a circlip, 3mm spacer or did you just insert the new lower bearing as purchased?
3. Obviously since the top bearing on the blackbird and the RC51 (SP-1) 2000-2001 are the same, 26x47x15, no modification is necessary here. For those of you that do not know it the RC51 (SP-2) 2002-2006 top steering stem bearing is a 35x55x14 and will not work with the blackkbird that accepts the smaller 47mm OD of the SP1 bearing.
4. Did you use a standard 2-line brake kit from the new master cyclinder (600f4i donor) to the new RC51 calipers, one line feeding each caliper. Was this just a standard RC51 2-line kit, or was it stock for another bike (954, 600f4i) or did you have them made to a custom longer length?
5. When you delinked your brakes did you keep the same rear brake master cyclinder from the 1100xx? How many lines did you run to the rear caliper? Did you drill the rear caliper and run a single brake line?
6. I am using the 954 top triple and Heli Bars for a 954. Will I need to lengthen my clutch line or throttle cables as part of the swap?
7. Did you notice any decrease in braking performance after going from the 1100xx front calipers to the RC51 front caliper set-up?
I am now in the process of doing the RC51 front end swap and am past the point of no return. Your comments and /or those from other riders with info on this swap would be sincerely appreciated. You can PM me or post your replies here. Thank you.
