Lowering

Hi everyone! Does anyone have any input on lowering my XX. I am about 5'6" with a 28 inch inseam and was wondering if I lower my XX will it affect the handling and will it make that much of a difference for me for reaching the ground. I already have a Corbin seat but just the tip of my toes touch the ground. I usually lean to one side with one foot flat on the ground. Has anyone lowered their bike and if so what was the result? Also any suggestions on the best way to do it if I decide to go that route. Thanks

Re: Lowering

I would recomend getting rid of the Corbin or at least keeping it for long distance rides only. Corbins are know to be lower BUT.... also wider which creates a problem touching the ground when stopped. I have a 30 inch inseam and I have a corbin that I use for distance but did the cheap mod to my stock seat that works great for me.
Peal back the skin (remove staples) on the stcok seat and then I used an electric carving knife to shave about an inch of the foam. I also spooned out the the area for my butt alittle which worked great and I can now easily touch flat footed. Restretch the cover and restaple back in place. No cost but very functional for those that are Height Impaired !!

Re: Lowering

There's a lowering link (Pro-Tek... I think) that allows a 1" & 3" drop in the rear, but the 3" drop is too much and presents interference problems. You can also raise the forks in the trees - but you have to watch for fender clearance issues. If you drop the rear 1" and leave the forks alone it lengthens the trail a bit and slows turn-in a bit, but high speed stability is slightly enhanced. Unless you're into canyon carving you don't really notice the small turn-in acuity sacrifice... but you'll get both feet flat on the deck.
