Right now my forks are out for overhaul so it would be a good time to retorque or replace head bearing. Mine is 02 with 50k miles. Questions; I do not feel like buying the special honda tool, is there any alternative option? Anybody rented the tool from local honda dealer? If someone has direct link to vendor and model numbers for stearing head and front and rear wheels bearings could you please post it?
My other question I stripped phillip head bolt for brake master cylinder cover, if you have a spare one laying around could you sell it? I can paypal for the bolt. If you have one please send me pm

There was a post last year on .org where a couple people replaced the bearings. They drifted, ( tapped with a hammer and punch) the old races out.
Tap slowly and work your way around the race.

They then took all-thread and washers that spanned the race to pull the race back in. Looks like it should work.

Have stripped the same screw heads on my Magna. I removed the old one with a easy-out and found a replacement at Home Depot. Stainless, it seems stronger. A trick I have found is to buy the right screwdriver for the job. Different countries make the heads different ways. I have screwdrivers manufactured by Vessel that fit all our Asian made equipment well.

I replaced my steering head bearing last night. It's a fairly easy job. Warchild has a very good post about this in the reference section.

The spendy-ass Honda tool isn't necessary. I used a hook spanner on the lock nuts, available from any bicycle store.

I ordered the AllBalls steering head bearings and both sets of wheel bearings from University Motors in Fargo. My favorite dealer of all time.

I decided to replace steering head bearings. The new bearing kit should come in friday. Removing old bearings turned out not to be very difficult other then accidental slip of screwdriver ending with the tip stuck in my left hand. I guess it's time to invest in vise...I will try to make a tool from 1 1/18 socket by grinding matching notches. Old bearings did not look very bad but there was not much grease left and it seems like some dust/sand got in

Al,
if you would consider mailing the tool with priority mail that would be great. I can pay for the shipping with paypal directly from my bank account. I looked up shipping from 48322 to 78550 (Harlingen TX) and 2 days priority is 4.05. Add $50 insurance and total comes up to $5.38 quoted on usps website. I plan on doing the installation this weekend so if you could ship it tomorrow I should have it no later then saturday. You can pm your paypal address if you have one.
My address is below:

tom gozdalski
3001 banyan circle
harlingen tx 78550

thanks
