I use copper coat on my bolts, but I dont put grease of any kind any where near the pads, the pads get extremely hot and would melt the grease and if you get it on your pads, you dont have brakes.

Re: copper based grease for break pads

The manuals for all my cars and bikes have advised putting a light coat of Syl-Glide or similar high-temp grease on the backs of the pads to prevent squealing. In over 500K miles I haven't lost my brakes yet. What am I missing?

I've been doing it for (probably) the best part of 20 years!
Not really necessary if there are clean anti squeal shims on the pads but a tiny rub on the rear of the pads does get rid of some of the horrible graunching/squealing that we get due to riding in 'British' conditions.

    You nailed it Pete.
Its got to do with the climate you live in etc..
In Greece there is no need for it.
Keep your pads clean front and back, as well as the caliper. Now that makes a lot of difference!
