To all Florida Folks, are you aware of the new legislation proposed here that will allow the confiscation of a motorcyle and jail for the rider caught going 50mph+ over posted speed limit? A person can sneeze and make this faux pax!!

If you are going 50+ mph over the speed limit just because you sneezed, then you shouldn't be on the bike. And if you're going to go that fast on purpose (speed limit +50mph), you really should be on a track, not on a public road, unless it's the autobahn.

I think that the situation should dictate the punishment. This is what I mean: On I-10 going from AZ to TX, there is a straight part of the road where you can see for mile ahead of you and about 200 yards on each side of the road....no possibility of cops hiding. The only way they can catch you speeding is with a helicopter. Last time I went that way I had my car up to about 165mph but there was absolutely no other cars around. Now, what harm was I doing if there is no possibility of anybody esle being injured? If you are going 50mph over the speed limit in the middle of traffic, where innocent bistandards could be hurt, then sure, I agree with taking the bike and putting you in jail. But, if nobody else is around...what's the big deal!? Just my two cents.

I agree with Falcon, if it's all by yourself, then you can't hurt anyone but yourself.. Rush hour downtown isn't the place for a top speed run because of the danger you pose to yourself and everyone around you.. But middle of nowhere texas, that's the perfect place for it.. I do more than 50 over the speed limit all the time, and I know I'm doing wrong, but if they're going to start putting us in jail for it, it's only fair that these idiots with their little jap race cars go to jail for the same thing.. Singling us out because we do the same thing as the cagers do is wrong..

If the law is strict and applicable whether you are going 80 in a 30 or 115 in 65 mph zone, I do not disagree with it. I think most people here use their discretion and open their XX up when no one is around, but there are a lot of people (cagers and riders alike) who don't. The law cannot single out bikes fm cagers, 18 wheelers from taxis, etc. i mean bike or cager, 50 over the limit is high. Now would I like to run more with the XX, heck yeah-but I don't for fear of tickets/higher insurance rates, etc. I guess I'm in the minority here, but there needs to be a line in the sand somewhere. There is hardly accountability in the US anymore-everyone has an excuse for everything.

Agreed ......
200 kph in a 100 kph zone on the New England Highway (for Aussie 'Birdies) is NOT the same as 120 kph in a urban 60 kph zone !!! ....
And should be treated differently .... My

Oh, & BTW, we generally don't do these speeds on residential or public roads, I'm only 15 miles from Cape Canaveral\NASA property, where there's plenty of secluded\straight roads to tear up, or out on I95 or I4.

| on the stator thing. I have a horrible mental picture of you running beside your bird trying to keep up with your 50+ mates
A friend of mine was caught doing 260kph in an 80kph zone on a gixxer. Spent 6 months in jail. Bloody idiot still hasn't slowed down. Sort of hope he gets caught again soon.
I would love to come for a ride with you in Fl, but I have a wife, one daughter and one on the way who would say "You have got to be kidding.. ", and I dont think the airlines would believe me when I say that my 07BB is hand luggage.
I keep my high speed stuff (250kph+) for the country/rural roads where you can see for miles, and you only have to worry about horses wandering on to the road
