Dragon's getting less fun all the time, guess what their doing now
I'm blessed to live not too far from the Dragon and get up there 5-6 times a year. I've already been 2 times this year. I'm getting ready to head up today and make a look, checking out the roads around the Bacon run when somebody told me this piece of "good news": Law Enforcement has put cameras about every two miles, mounted on trees. Right now there are big purple boxes in the trees. There are actual speed cameras in them now, but they may or may not be permenately mounted where they are. They are experimenting as to where to put them. They definitely will be there from now on, their just fine tuning where they'll be stationed. Dragon was much more fun a long time ago when fewer folks knew about it and law enforcement wasn't so tight. So Bacon Runners and all others - BE AWARE

Re: Dragon's getting less fun all the time, guess what their doing now
Tragic, if like me one tends to exceed the Dragon's speed limit with reckless abandon. However, the Dragon is only one road among many in the area that seem to have far less traffic and less potential for active law enforcement than the Dragon. Last time up, I was more concerned about the Dragon's decreasing safety factor as a function of less-experienced riders. I rode with a very experienced track rider who stated, "You could lose your life on this road, and it woudn't be your fault." Maybe so.

get used to it. here in austria we have many roads with a speeding limit of 100km/h but 70km/h for motorbikes...

I don't know what the caliber of drivers are in Austria, but IMHO a law like this would be more dangerous in the United States and possibly cause more accidents. I'll admit to being a speed-demon and pushing the limits, but only when "safe" to do so (NO cars, pedestrians, wooded areas close to the road with potential for deer to jump into the roadway). Especially after my run in with a cager last October which fortunately is how I managed to find my bird.
But, anyway to my point, there will always be novice riders, both in cars and on motos. A speed limit does not matter to someone who has a lack of "fear" for two wheels and will just speed excessively anyway. And also when I ride I try to stay approx 5mph faster than other traffic and in the fast lane, this way i only have to worry about people in front of me and merging into me from one side instead of two. I've seen people on bikes get rear-ended just "cruising" on the highway in the slow lane due to cagers trying to quickly catch an exit and misjudging the slower speed the moto was traveling.
If there was a speed limit that forced the rest of us, who respect the laws, to maintain a speed slower than that of cars we would obviously be in the slow lane or backing up other drivers and causing them to have even more road rage than they already do which would throw another dangerous factor into the situation.
Anyway just my opinion up for debate, what do you guys think? Anyone agree/disagree,
Trevor
As a side note I live in the suburbs, but when traveling in a city with cars parallel parked on a street or lots of intersections I do travel under the speed limit in case a door swings open or someone pulls out without looking. And I can vouch that it definitely pisses other drivers off haha.

Well maybe if enough folks squawk they'll toss them. They got rid of them here in AZ proved to not be enforcable. Also and I didn't tell you this but if you ride witha tinted visor they can't prove its you riding. Lawyer friend had all of his cases he took to court thrown out. Yes they can ticket the bike but can not prove you were the rider. No facial recognition because of the helmet so the citation is invalid.

Is it confirmed? Last year in Australia they were going on and on about hidden speed cameras in the trees on Mt. Glorious but it was all a bunch of scare mongering.

The Black Spur and the Reefton Spur here do have Coppers in the Trees with Hair dryers and they are having a good time of it,
They call them Greed OH sorry Safety camera's, Lowered the speed limit to 80 KPH and put a single line all the way through, You cannot overtake on a single line, So you have to putt through there at the speed of the slowest car Truck or Caravan, Normally about 40 KPH,
Licence and breatho check for all motorcycles, But they dont do it for cars,
See we have lowered the accident rate up here, What a load of crap.
All the bikes have gone else where due to the constant harrassment from the cops. and the low speed limit,

the curvy mountain roads that are affected by this are cliffy anough that cars won´t be safe when going the allowed 100km/h all the time.
still there are some kids who go that fast - and leave some fine impact mark on rocks, trees and houses
and for "throwing another dangerous factor...": what has reality to do with any governmental decision?!?!?!?

Now that just sucks! Not that they have to worry about lil ol me speeding on that particular stretch of road.
