Hello all

My wife and I will be going to a family get together in Miami at New Year and I hope to escape to trundle around a bit. Can anyone recommend a firm there that offers anything other than a Harley/cruiser for rental? I've not found much online...

Any pointers much appreciated.

I live 15 miles north of Miami. I personally never ever even get close to Miami unless it is just passing through to get to the airport. The city is very corrupt, dirty and full of thieves. My father grew up in Miami but we stay clear as much as possible. Miami Southbeach is about the only safe place to party after dark now as there are Police on horseback everywhere!!
As far as riding a motorcycle in Miami, don't even think about it unless you plan on being buried in Miami. Plus we drive on the wrong (left) side of the road here :-)

virtually no more motorcycle rentals here in So. Florida anymore due to the high insurance costs putting them out of business. A hardley is about all that is left to rent and they are getting difficult to find and cost is stupid high.
You can rent a scooter on the beach very cheaply and have a bit of fun !

John, thank you for your warning. We will not stay in the Miami area!

As for driving on the left - this must be a true Blackbird rider comment - I'd feel right at home!

Toed, you're welcome. My wife and I are driving to Palm Springs in March and I'm toying with the idea of renting a bike for a day and riding up to Joshua tree National park Good Luck Google the park

Miami SouthBeach is a must-see when visiting. All the movie star types hang out there regularly. Expensive but enjoyable for a visit. Very safe as well.

Where are you staying ? I have a BlackBird here in Fort Lauderdale, that you could take for a ride while here.
Since I have attended the BlackBird Bash in England for 8 years I am aware of driving on the right verses wrong(left) side of the road. Takes a little practice at intersections but easily done on a Bike. Plus no round-abouts here !!

PM me dates when you will be here in South Florida and I will arrange a meet-up for at least a beer.

That sounds like a great day. I think it's time to do some web surfing to get some ideas for shortish round trips. Most places are relatively close here -at least in North American terms! My brother, wife and I are planning a trip to the Scottish Highlands in the Spring. Although we live just north of London, the Highlands are only about a 9 hour ride away...

Yeah, I know - I once made Dumfries in 3hrs20mins (Before Cameras), but Wifey is a new rider and on a 29 year old XJ750 - so perhaps 7 hours at Wifespeed and 9 hours in busamode?
