The New Posts option on the menu will always show you any posts that you haven't read. In addition, the "down arrow" icon that appears in front of each thread title will automatically take you to the first new post in that thread.
Once you have read the posts you are interested in, you can use the Mark Forums Read option under the Quick Links menu to clear out any unread posts that you have chosen not to read.

Conq,
Any chance that the "mark all posts read in this thread" be linked so that it takes you back to the main forum index once it is clicked ?
I am basically lazy and it would save one more mouse click ! |

Where do you see a "mark all posts read in this thread" link? The "Mark All Forums Read" link should already take you back to the forum index.

My Bad.. "Mark all Forums Read" does not take me back to the index.
It just marks the threads read but stays there and does not go anywhere ? Quote: |

| This is what I am doing a bad job of explaining. It does not take me to the index. Should it ?

Tab: "Forum Tools" click open the drop down menu and select "Mark this Forum Read" click it and for me, all the Unread threads are marked off as read but I remain in the same place, seeing all the threads as marked Read.
I then have to click on the CBR1100XX.com Forums tab to get back to the Index.
Is there anyone else out there that can verify what happens when they "Mark this Forum Read" ??
Strange that it would do different things for different people.? Maybe something in my settings ?
Others please chime in !

Ah, ok. I'm using the one under Quick Links to "Mark All Forums Read". That one takes you back to the forums index.
The one under Forum Tools is called "Mark This Forum Read", and it only marks that one forum as read, so it keeps you in the forum.
I have Bookmark that points to this URL: http://www.cbrxx.com/search.php?do=getnew and I've got a button on my browser toolbar that is assigned to that bookmark.
I just click that button to see what's new on the site. After I read a thread, I just click that button again and I'm back to the list of new threads (minus the one I just read). Then when I'm done reading (if I don't read all the new threads), I go to Quick Links -> Mark Forums Read and I'm all done until something new shows up.

Gotcha...
I have always started with the Index and opened each Individual forum and read what I was interested in and then use the forum tools to mark this forum read then return to the index for the next forum with new posts.
Just one extra click so no big deal, just thought it might be an easy change to return to index once that particular forum was gone through. Then move to the next forum with new posts.
Old habit from the .org forum. I will have to try out the New Posts method.

Another thing you can do is, once you are on the forum index, you can double-click the forum icon (the XX logo) beside the forum name and that will also mark that forum as "read".
When there are many forums, it can take a lot of time to go into each one. New Posts just gathers them all into one list for you. And, if there are some forums you don't want to show up in your New Posts list, you can turn those off too.

How do you stop it from subscribing to every thread and emailing to you?
