Crossing Utah and Nevada

Whats the fastest route to cross these states from Colorado. I'm heading west with the significant other first 2 weeks of June with the plan to ride some of Colorado and then cross over to northern California. Plans are open at this time, no specific destinations but obviously want to ride some nice roads and see some beautiful western scenery. I've been as far west as Colorado, Grand Tetons, and Yellowstone but never on 2 wheels. I'm sure Utah and Nevada have some beautiful parts somewhere but we really want to try to concentrate on the coastal areas of northern California.

In Utah you got options (I hope you're not talking I-80 or I-70 the whole way) Yuo got all the canyons and stuff on southern part of Utah which I like but can be hot.

or the more Northern route through Vernal to 6 to Hwy 50 which is the only way accross Nevada (unless you cross at Vegas (fity miles). It's called the loniest highway in America and for good reason. I thought it was cool.

I'm a bit biased, but the southern route through Utah holds the scenery you're after. If you happen to to do I-70, at Richfield, Utah take 89 South. This route will take you down the Grand Staircase hitting Bryce, Zion, and the Grand Canyon. To get to Northern Cal from there, I-15 South to Barstow traverses some of the most barren real estate in the west - nothing to poke around for. Pick up 58 in Barstow to Bakersfield and then onto an incredible ride to San Luis Obisbo and the PCH. Check my post on From the Corners of the Planet. If you end up going through So. However, if you want fast, get on I-80 and get it over with. (No disrespect to my fine friends above- I just read where you want to concentrate on CA, and that's the way to get across the fastest.)

I-80 will put the hurt on you!!! I say leave that road to the goldwings. Really the differance is a day, take more time off and don't learn to hate your motorcycle! Plus 80 put into San fran area and you already missed alot of great riding. As nosaint said, it start in SLO.
I would say get off of 70 on the 72 though and go south to 24 east to 12. That puts you though all the same area is better than 89 and puts you out on the 89 lower down which is on your way to cal.
