    Colorado road question

I was watching a show last night that featured the "million dollar highway" (US 550) from Durango to Ouray. It was showing how dangerous the road is because of it's narrow lanes, lack of guide rails, and steep cliffs. However, with all of it's switchbacks, twists, and turns it is an awesome sportbike road.

Has anyone here ever ridden that road?

    Re: Colorado road question

That's a classic stretch of road through a beautiful area of Colorado. I haven't ridden it but I've driven it. I wouldn't say it was any more dangerous than alot of high, twisty mountain roads........actually these are the ones we look for!
I'd say that Beartooth Pass in southern Montana was more sketchy, with potholes, high winds and very exposed, but still I had a great time and would go back in a heartbeat.

    Re: Colorado road question

Having lived in Colorado for 53 years(54 now) I have ridden in more than a dozen times and yes it's a truely special road.If you ride it before tourist season(End of May to Early Sept.) it's especially good in mid-May as long as a late season snow storm doesn't roll in.So if you get a chance to ride it GO FOR IT you won't soon forget the expierence.

    Re: Colorado road question

Well I rode the Million Dollar Highway a week ago, other than a cooling problem which gave me some worry it was a great ride! The speed limit is about 30-35 mph through there as I recall and there are alot of vehicles crawling up the pass so no I wouldn't say it's dangerous. (although we did see a harley on it's side and the rider being strapped to a backboard). Snow right up until Memorial Day is always a possibility in the CO high country)

    Re: Colorado road question

We will be riding it this week (July 14 or 15 ). I hope the speeds are not 35mph. One of my sons will be on his XX. I left mine home & will be on my Tuono. We will have plenty of pics, if we survive.
