It should be DOT and SNELL approved and fit comfortably. Be quiet, light, and affordable. Did you do the search? I think mine's a Shark.

I have one of those and it fits my head quite comfortably.. You really need to go somewhere and try a helmet on and make sure the fit is correct. by all means once you have found a brand, model and size that fits you then buy off the net if its cheaper. BUT I would never buy a helmet that I havent made sure it fits properly first.. different brands have slightly different sizes so you cant say this HJB fits and that Shoei is the same size and it fits to.. I you want secific information about the 1000 ask away.

nice lid, still pricy and if money is a factor, why buy a shoei? there are a lot of other brands that will have the same safety ratings. check out ebay.com (for the north american market). for the following brands. HJC KBC Suomy (the vandals are a good price) Icon most of the above are attainable for under $250 canadian, which works out to atleast half of the shoei you are looking at. Ebay.co.uk is always a good price too and closer to your home id say.

Long time SHOEI wearer but made the switch to ICON a few years ago. Lighter, better ventilation though a bit noisier. The noise isn't much of a factor as I wear foam plugs anyway. The price of the ICON was considerably less than a new SHOEI as well and came with a removable/washable liner and inserts. The shape inside is the same as the SHOEI so that was one of the major factors in my deciding. Everybodies egg is shaped a bit differently and different manufacturers shape their helmets differently as well. Most people that wear ARAI's cannot wear a SHOEI comfortably for instance.

Hello ,my man i'm from greece too...i own a shoei xr-1000 tc-5 .the revelation model (that with the skull in red flames at the back)...you can find them in our local shops between 400 - 550 euros...price depends on how old is the design exept from replicas that keep a high price for longer time..Fc moto shop is one of the best e-shops in europe and offers great prices...bying a helmet and such equipment from the internet is always a risk...make sure that the size relation is equal to our country ...make sure it has the e6 european safety standards sign....good luck...

Hey there, I got an '08 XR-1000 on sale a few months ago, $500aud down from $890aud. I went with the Shoei as I have a big head and found it fit best. However I bought the girlfriend a new KBC VR2 at full price for $380aud and free tinted visor. I was really impressed with the KBC, its got a breath guard, chin curtain (shoei you have to buy these). It also has very nice interior (removable) venting is great (almost the same as shoei) and it has an intergrated (moulded) wind lip at the rear where shoei stick some ugly clear plastic unless you get the next model up at $1200aud. And they both meet the same saftey ratings. Check out the KBC, if it fits well id go with it!! |

Shoei and Arai are two really good choices. If you can swing it, get the best you can.

![]() Arai= closest to custom as you can get. Go to an official dealer and get properly fitted and order it. But really expensive so probably out. I had an older AGV and just bought a Shoei last year and I love it. My AGV feels like it weighs twice as much. I have a small skinny head and it fits me perfect.

![]() Although I have an Arai, I used to own an AGV - Check that if fits snug but not tight. Brands differ in shape. As you go down in $$ terms you'll find you get less benefits from a helmet (vents, visors, removable check pads etc.,) but all should meet an approved standard Look around try as many as you can on - take some time you will find what you need.

I'd recommend a Shoei. I, like Saloman161 have a big head and the Shoei fits me best. I picked up a black RF1000 in the states last week for USD $349. They threw in the nose and chin guard as well that retail here for $40. I think I'd get a Shoei anyway as I dont like to scrimp on safety and you tend to get what you pay for anyway. Pay the extra and get a top quality helmet. It just might save your life one day.

I've got a couple of HJC's. I believe one is a CL-14 and one is a CL-15. They seem to be a really good 'bang for the buck' helmet....like the least expensive full-face helmet you'll get that is still well made. The ones I have ran maybe $115 new. Both are pretty comfortable, and I can personally attest to the durability of the CL-14 as I bounced my face off the freeway at 60mph while wearing one a few years back...and the helmet worked like a charm....saved my ugly mug from getting scraped off. |

HJC AC12 carbon for me. Fits well, super light, and a little noisy. But, it's probably the cheapest carbon fiber hemet going. I bought my Ben Spies replica AC12 carbon on ebay not long ago for $250. I'll bet you could find a solid color one even cheaper.

Hi panagos, you really need to try the gear on before you purchase it, just for the comfort factor alone. If your gear doesn't fit right or it is to tight or to loose or just plain uncomfortable, you may find yourself focasing more on the fact that your irritated by it rather than focasing on what's happening ahead on the road or what your doing as a rider. Being comfortable makes you a better/safer rider and there's nothing worse than a headache from an uncomfortable helmet.

![]() I had Shoei's for ~10 years as the shops I frequented sold them & several other brands & I found them comfortable & quiet. Having moved & in need of a new helmet I tried on an Arai at the local shop. MUCH better fit & shape for my head. Nice fit & comfy, but substantially noisier than the Shoei's I have had in the past. Now I just want an Arai shape with a Shoei visor mechanism...

Schuberth C2 ! Has sun visor inbuilt and you can set the main visor with a gap for ventilation. It pulls forward a notch both sides, or even one side. The top vent is quite good too. |

In general the more expensive helmets have better ventilation and are lighter. To me, when you consider the hours you will spend in your helmet, having a lighter one is nice. I ended up buying a Shoei X-11 that I found on Craigslist. It was a passenger helmet a guy bought and hadn't used hardly at all. I bought it for $130. It has been a fantastic helmet. I would definitely agree with what others have said about trying one on to fit your own head. Everyone is different. If you are patient and you want a nice helmet but don't want to pay big bucks, maybe you could find a nice used one.

Another thing to consider is the shape of your head. I believe the higher end models have round, oval and long in terms of circumference. This adds credence to the try one on and make sure it fits your size and shape then get the model number/size and find in on sale or online. I've got an Arai Astral with three shields and it fits really well and I've gotten the face shield swap down to a few seconds. I'm getting some noise but that is from the wind screen I have, a Puig ST. I'm planning on painting the MRA Vario on the inside as the one that came with the bike is clear. I remember with the flip up device on it it created a bubble around me with very little wind interference.

ACU Gold Approved and EC2205 Approved are better standards than the old SNELL. SNELL standards are based on a mistake they have refused to correct so far. They looked at helmets from crashes and saw round "indents". So they made the standard that they drop a weighted helmet onto a round anvil. Of course when you smack a round helmet on a flat surface, the result looks round but it is actually flat. Video clip Testing You end up with a standard built for a crash that will almost never happen i.e. you crash into an immovable ball. Even if you hit your head on a phone pole, that is a cylinder. They do test with other shapes but they are easier test to pass. The pass level is set at 300g! which would likely kill you or leave you brain damaged anyway. Newer standards lower the allowed Gs and test of flat impacts - like the road. Last edited by BackStreet; 07-05-2009 at 8:39 AM. |
