I didn't mean on the bike...I meant on the camera gear. Even comprehensive auto insurance with a rider won't cover the loss of "professional, high-loss-value equipment."

Re: Tank Bag Conversion for Photo Gear

Ill post the pic when I get home..

As for the professional photography URLS i went to school for 3 years to learn Content, The way the brain works and how to draw the eye into an image. perspective, lighting, Post production and the list goes on.. not really something you can pick up off the web..

I would bet that if jon takes 1000 photo's 900 would be beyond the ability of the hack photographer (technically)
800 of them would be usable professionally
600 would be submitted for use to the client
200 would be accepted by the client
20 of those chosen would be the ones jon thought that the client would choose. lol

How far wrong am I jon...

well im sure you can upgrade it... the 3000 is just the free stuff.... damn you guys and your camera's... why do you carry it on a bike, ain't you scared its gonna mess up your camera or get stolen or just some random act of god happening, that you would be safer in a car then a bike... <shrugs> just my opinion... i just stick my camera in my givi case and wrap it in my "just in case" clothing...

You're pretty much on the money in terms of percentage

That's luggage...Personal property, not "commercial equipment." The waters get murky there, and it's very frustrating (don't even get me started on crossing into Canada with my gear), so it's much better to just buy separate equipment insurance available through many of the pro shooter organizations.

Yeah, if I'm packing major gear it's in the cage. On my bikes though I'll either carry in the hard saddlebags on the Road King or Street Glide, or in a Pelican case, in a T-Bag.

Seeing INS's tank bag mod is pretty cool and is making me mentally ruminate about a few different things...I hadn't ever really planned on carrying much camera stuff on the bird.

Re: Tank Bag Conversion for Photo Gear

My business insurance covers the gear. I've been shooting professionally both still and film from motorcycles and just about anything else that moves for years, and for the exception of having a grip release my 'Bird after rigging it with a camera mount and tipping it over on the LH side ($2200), I've been pretty lucky so far.

My last shoot:

Re: Tank Bag Conversion for Photo Gear

An afterthought - we're all taking perhaps the greatest risk simply by riding - funny that we're more anal about our gear than we are about our own personal safety, ATGATT not withstanding.

I'm not shooting any fast lenses on my ride, that'd be crazy, but I'm comfortable with the gear I'm packing. I'd rather loose a lens than miss a shot.

Years ago I had a gig shooting professional cycling on the East Coast and in Europe. I was shooting digital Betacam and an Arri SRII 16mm, at times with a Steadicam, from the back of a BMW bike. I couldn't think about the costs involved if we went down. I had to forget about it and my precariousness and shoot the race.

Re: Tank Bag Conversion for Photo Gear

I just got my Cortech Tailpack today, and it looks like the guts out of one of my Tamrac backpacks will go in it quite nicely.

Thanks for the inspiration!

next is to build a grab bar mount for the 300 2.8

I don't know about bees, but I can tell you that the ones I've used don't stand up at all to a paintball hit at 300 feet per second (better that than the front element though)
