Vemar "Jiano" flip-up helmet...Anyone?

As I *cough* age, I'm finding that it's difficult to read my gauges without my glasses. I can see well enough without my glasses to have passed my DOT eyesight exam, but just (and that was two years ago). I'm at the point now where I'm no longer comfortable wearing (non-prescription) sunglasses behind my clear visor. I have another helmet with a tinted visor, but it's pretty annoying at night.

So my choices are:

Continue as I have been, and be an increasing danger to myself and others (unacceptable)

Buy prescription sunglasses (about the same cost as a new helmet)

Buy a new helmet with an integrated retractable tinted visor

I have fairly well determined that I'd rather buy a new helmet. It's been three years since a new helmet, it's really past time to replace anyway (I like to replace my helmets at two years old).

I've been poking around various review sites and based on those and some people I know, I've ruled out the Schuberth's. I've also ruled out the Caberg Justissimo and the Caberg Trip/Rhyno (actually DOT ruled that one out for me), mainly due to the inner visor not coming all the way down.

I couldn't really care less about a "flip-up" style helmet, but it seems that only flip-ups (that I've found so far) have the integrated tinted visor.

Enter the Vemar "Jiano" flip-up helmet. Its tinted visor appears to cover the entire eye opening:

http://www.kneedraggers.com/image_st...ab_refined.jpg

Now for the question: Has anyone here worn one? How does it fit? How does it feel? How noisy is it? Etc...Any input?

and i have a flip up hybrid helmet but it didn't have the fighter pilot lense, wasn't really a fan of those, at least the ones readily available didn't have a chinguard, it was just a 3/4 face helmet and i could just imagine all the air getting caught up in there..

Re: Vemar "Jiano" flip-up helmet...Anyone?

LOL no, wasn't trying to... just thoughts that came up after posting, and didn't want to re-edit LOL
why didn't/don't you like them? the ones i have take about 15 minutes to fully darken outside then lighten indoors, and these are VA glasses LOL. I think transition lenses have come a long way, cuz i had a set in iraq and it would take almost an hour to darken outside and then i would be blind when we went into our underground bunkers for another hour till they lightened up, then of course we would end up doing another mission, so i didn't like them either, if these wern't free to me i wouldn't have gotten them, but now im hooked on them...
either way good luck on your "mission" LOL

jonscott...

I do not have a flip up style of helmet or one that has a inner sun shade style of visor. I have looked at a few models. HJC, Nolan and Shoei. Out of those the Shoei looked to be the best made. It also looked the best IMO. It was also pricey. Real pricey. The Nolan looked like sh!t IMO. Felt wierd on my head. The HJC was cheap and looked good. It was comfortable. I'm not sure if you have ever been on webbike world but they have some reviews on helmets. Some good detail in their reviews. Like a lot of reviews you have to shift through the comments and determine which comments are important to you.

Good luck. I think Heisti has the Schuberth.

I nearly purchased a Nolan N102 helmet with the flip down tinted visor. The Nolan is a flip front helmet - which I liked because it means I didnt have to take my glasses off to put my helmet on.

The only reasons I didnt get it were that I found a Shark RSF2i helmet that fitted better and was $100 cheaper.

They may have sped up a bit since then, but still...It's the same money...

I have in fact been looking at WBW...And for the most part I've agreed with most of their reviews of the helmets that I've laid hands on. The HJC's seem to fit my head pretty well, but they look and feel like astronaut helmets. A few of my friends have them and all say that they're pretty noisy. I also tried on a Scorpion, but it's freakin' heavy and has a bunch of fairings and crap glued on to it to make it noisy as well. I'm drawn to the Vemar because it's been reported as being "Arai-head friendly" lol

Hmm...I'll have a look at the Givi 40.1 also...Since it's sold in Oregon, it must be at least DOT approved.

Re: Vemar "Jiano" flip-up helmet...Anyone?

I've never been able to ride without my glasses. I wear blended bi-focals, photo-grey, anti glare on non overly sunny days. I wear prescription sunglasses, blended bi-focal etc on sunny days. I can't wear a tinted visor. Too dark for me. At first, being a cheap arse rooky, I wore sunglasses but couldn't see the gages. After a year I bought prescription sunglasses. Not cheap but necessary. Lazer surgery and contacts are out for me. My regular photo-grays darken quickly and lighten back up quickly but they don't really work as sunglasses. I wear a Shark. I don't change my helmet every two or three years. It's DOT and Snell approved. I just can't bite on a $1,000 helmet.

Scorpion's EXO-1000 series has a built-in, retractable sun shield and it's also got a pump in it and the cheek pads inflate for a "custom" fit. I have an EXO-700 and I absolutely love it. Good price too.

Just my 2c here but I wear contacts when I ride no matter what. Clear shield on my helmet so regular sunglasses during the day and nothing at night. When I ride with no helmet I have tinted and clear glasses that have the foam around the lenses that contour to my face. I almost bought the HJC FS-10 with the integrated sun shield at the bike show in Feb. but the boss (wife) said to wait. It was on sale for $150. One of my riding buddies has an HJC and he loves it. Hope you find what you're looking for. Cheers.

Yep, it's me. HJC FS-10. I like the visor, the price was right, it's matte black and looks pretty good. It's a little noisey, but I wear earphones anyway so that's no issue for me.

Re: Vemar "Jiano" flip-up helmet...Anyone?

I do have an HJC helmet as well but a different model. I think mine is an AC-10. Carbon. Light. Fit is excellent. Cost was low. I like it lots. It is not a flip up design and it does not have a sun visor shield. I tend to ride with a tinted iridium shield and sun glasses. I don't find the HJC any noisier then other helmets.

I bought an HJC IS-Max from a local dealer. In "anthracite" (dark grey metallic) - it matches my leathers

Re: Vemar "Jiano" flip-up helmet...Anyone?

Hi everyone,
First time on this site.
I own a Vemar Jiano helmet.

First the good points:
It's a pretty decent lid. It's comfy for several hours riding. The bluetooth works well linked to my phone, and people tell me they had no idea I was using the helmet to talk to them. The sound produced is a little quiet at high speed though, anything more than 60mph & you may be struggling to hear the music/speech, especially if you wear plugs too!
The push-in ratchet strap fastener is easy to use but is different to anything I have used so far (18years riding so far) & takes a little getting used to.

Now the bad points:

The wind noise is pretty fierce at high speed.
The integral sun visor mists very quickly if left in the retracted position, if you drop it down it takes several minutes for the condensation to clear, & yes - I do use anti fog on it.
The main visor is not too easy to get on/off the helmet without a small pry tool, you're supposed to be able to do it with your thumb (good luck with that!).
The main visor leaks like a b**tard in heavy rain! The rubber gasket seal around the top of the face aperture is shoddy to say the least! A recent ride from Birmingham to Leicester and back saw me stop 5 times to clear running water from the inside of the visor.

On the whole I think it isn't a bad helmet, but the leak problem lets it down badly.

Hope that helps you some,
cheers,
Fugly

Re: Vemar "Jiano" flip-up helmet...Anyone?

after hours of shopping around i found these truly great glasses Osiris sun

great glasses.JPG

Perfect for biking, they are singe vision lenses for distance only. Made of a tough flexible plastic. Scratch resistant, Anti Glare and the lenses are reactolites so they darken a fair bit in the sun.

The curved wrap around shape means they don't get in the way of the helmet & are easy to slip on after u put yer lid on

I slammed my car bonnet down on them..eek but they survived one lens popped out and the other lens picked up a deep scratch in the corner

When it gets misty inside my helmet i can push them back so the are completely flush with my face so they don't mist up too

the thick arms means i can pull them an inch away from my face and they remain in position if they do somehow get steamed up (has some tiny rubber grips on the inside of the arms)

the nose suports are also rubber so they dont feel cold or dig in. The glasses stay firmly where i want them

again

all i can say is they are perfect biker glasses...& perhaps an alternative to flip front helmets if u need to wear glasses for vision

downside is they were on the designer shelf ?! so they were pretty expensive....BUT totally worth every penny as they removed a number of niggles in one fell swoop...ill never go back to wearing anything for riding else thats for sure

Enter the Vemar "Jiano" flip-up helmet. Its tinted visor appears to cover the entire eye opening:

Now for the question: Has anyone here worn one? How does it fit? How does it feel? How noisy is it? Etc...Any input?

Get some contacts and continue with the helmet(s) you have. I wear contacts whenever I am riding. works great for me..........
